DNVN - Minister Huynh Thanh Dat said that the Ministry of Science and Technology will coordinate with relevant domestic and foreign units to build a sustainable Halal ecosystem in Vietnam, meeting the highest international standards. Vietnam wishes to cooperate with partners to build an increasingly strong Halal industry in Vietnam.

According to the Global Islamic Economy Report, spending on Halal products and services is expected to reach US$1.67 trillion by 2025. With proper and effective investment, Vietnam's agricultural and aquatic products industry can tap into the huge potential of this market, where Muslims will account for 30% of the world's population by 2024.

Halal products are products that comply with Islamic law, meeting strict requirements from ingredients to production, processing and transportation. Participating in the Halal market not only opens up great economic opportunities for Vietnam but also helps the country affirm its position in the global market.

At the National Halal Conference on the afternoon of October 22 in Hanoi, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat said that over the years, Halal products and services have become increasingly popular and preferred globally, from Muslim to non-Muslim countries. This is because Halal products meet many criteria of food safety, green, clean, and sustainable development.

This opens up many opportunities for Vietnam, a country that exports a variety of products in many fields. Vietnam's Halal industry is increasingly receiving attention for development. In particular, in 2024, the Ministry of Science and Technology established the National Halal Certification Center. Accordingly, it will create favorable conditions for businesses to produce and export Vietnamese Halal products.

The Minister affirmed that in the coming time, the Ministry will coordinate with relevant domestic and foreign units to build a sustainable Halal ecosystem in Vietnam, meeting the highest international standards. Vietnam wishes to cooperate with partners to build an increasingly strong Halal industry in Vietnam.

Mr. Mohamed Jinna - Chairman of the Halal Certification Authority of India, commented that the global Halal economy is worth more than 2 trillion USD, creating great opportunities for Vietnam in trade growth and investment attraction. He highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts in promoting global cooperation in the Halal field and affirmed that compliance with the highest Halal standards will help Vietnam build trust with Muslim consumers.

To truly tap the potential of this market, according to Mr. Mohamed Jinna, Vietnam must meet the highest standards for Halal certification.

"Products not only need to meet requirements but also need to gain the trust of Muslim consumers around the world. Halal certification is a bridge between Vietnam and the global Muslim community - a bridge leading to unprecedented trade, partnerships and investments," Mr. Mohamed Jinna emphasized.

Pointing out the potential for Halal tourism development in Vietnam, Mr. Mohamed Jinna suggested that tourism facilities and hotels should be equipped to serve the special needs of Muslim tourists to promote economic growth and enhance Vietnam's reputation as a Halal-friendly destination.

From the perspective of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Mr. Moteb Al-Mezani - Chairman of the GCC Halal Certification Center, commented that Vietnam has been paying strong attention to the Halal market, with many activities promoting cooperation and experience exchange. Halal certification is not only an opportunity for Vietnam to participate more deeply in the Muslim market but also helps Vietnamese products penetrate all Halal markets in the world.

Mr. Ihsan ÖVÜT - Secretary General of the Standard Institute of Islamic Countries (SMIIC), emphasized that the Halal industry brings great opportunities for Vietnam not only in tourism but also in other areas such as food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, Vietnam needs to apply unified Halal standards to fully exploit its economic potential.

“The adoption of unified Halal standards will certainly support Vietnam’s economic growth, encourage innovation and open a new era of global partnerships,” said Mr. ÖVÜT.

The Halal Conference is the largest international event on Halal, held for the first time since the Prime Minister issued the Project "Strengthening international cooperation to build and develop Vietnam's Halal industry by 2030" on February 14, 2023. The Conference has an important orientation for the development of Vietnam's Halal industry. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended and delivered a speech at the Conference.
