According to the report of Ninh Phuoc District People's Committee, the whole district currently has 12,043 households/55,746 ethnic minority people, accounting for 34.44% of the district's population. By the end of 2023, the rate of poor ethnic minority households is 315 households/1,525 people, accounting for 2.62%; near-poor ethnic minority households are 977 households/4,891 people, accounting for 8.11%.
Identifying that prestigious people among ethnic minorities play an important role as a bridge between agencies and organizations in the grassroots political system and the people, in recent times, the District Party Committee and the District People's Committee have always paid attention to and encouraged prestigious people to promote their role as the core, set good examples, and take the lead in implementing socio-economic development, national defense and security tasks; preserve and promote the spirit of solidarity in the ethnic community and the great national unity bloc; preserve and promote the values and fine traditional cultural identities of their people.
Thereby, the prestigious person has actively contributed to the process of socio-economic development, preserving and promoting cultural values, maintaining political security and social order and safety in the locality.
At the meeting, the prestigious Cham people thanked the Party and State for paying much attention to ethnic minorities in general and the Cham people in particular. Especially the support for investment in building infrastructure; supporting production and developing education so that ethnic minority children have the conditions to study properly.
According to Mr. Quang Dai Thinh, a prestigious person in My Nghiep quarter, Phuoc Dan town, Ninh Phuoc district, the people are what they are today thanks to the attention and investment of the Party and the State. Currently, the rural face of the Cham ethnic group has changed significantly, the people's lives have been improved, and the distance to the city has been significantly shortened.
"What I am most concerned about now is that there are not many Cham people in the Party's ranks; young Cham people who have started successful businesses are not many, they are still stuck in the "village pond". The State needs to provide more support to develop effective production models to reduce poverty sustainably, have policies to invest in exploiting the potential of Cham ethnic areas , have policies to exempt and reduce tuition fees for Cham children studying at universities ...", Mr. Thinh expressed his wishes.
After listening to the leaders of Ninh Phuoc district report on the socio-economic situation as well as the implementation of ethnic policies in the area, Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh expressed his joy at the results achieved in socio-economic development; poverty reduction and security and order stabilization in the locality in recent times.
Minister Hau A Lenh emphasized: With over 85,000 people, the Cham people in Ninh Thuan are always united, believe in the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws; live a "good life, good religion", actively participate in socio-economic development, gradually improve their material life, preserve and promote rich and diverse cultural traditions, contributing to enriching the cultural treasure imbued with Vietnamese national identity.
In 2022, the Cham pottery art heritage was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage in need of protection. Kate is the traditional New Year of the Cham community following Brahmanism, which has existed for a long time and is one of the most distinctive festivals in the Cham ethnic cultural treasure. This is an occasion for descendants to remember their ancestors and the gods who have blessed them with favorable weather and wind for good harvests, and for every family to have enough food and clothing. With the unique and long-standing culture of the Cham people, along with the natural conditions bestowed by nature, Ninh Thuan has great promise for the tourism industry to develop strongly.
The Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities believes that the prestigious people in Ninh Thuan province in general and the prestigious people of the Cham ethnic group in particular will continuously promote their roles and responsibilities, making important contributions to social activities, actively propagating and mobilizing people to well implement the Party's guidelines and policies and the State's laws.
Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh wished everyone a joyful, healthy and economical Kate Festival 2024, continuing to well implement the policies of the Party and State, especially effectively implementing the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
Impressed by the development of the Cham ethnic minority area in the locality, the Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities hoped that the people would continue to promote good traditional cultural values, thereby contributing to the cultural diversity of the Vietnamese ethnic community; strive to work hard, and together overcome difficulties to escape poverty.
The Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities believes and hopes that with the support of ethnic policies and the attention and assistance from authorities at all levels, people will have the conditions and opportunities to get rich based on the local potential and strengths in agriculture such as livestock, specialty crops, etc.
The Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities hopes that people will continue to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws; help each other eliminate hunger and reduce poverty; contribute to the country's overall development achievements; further promote the fine traditional cultural identity, join hands and unite in the Great National Unity to build and develop the homeland to become more and more prosperous.
Regarding opinions, recommendations and difficulties and obstacles at the grassroots level in implementing the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, the Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities acknowledged and will report to the Government for adjustments in the coming period.
Speaking at the visit and gift-giving ceremony, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Council Pham Van Hau thanked the member of the Party Central Committee, Minister, Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh and the working delegation for visiting and presenting gifts to dignitaries and prestigious people on the occasion of the Kate Festival. Minister and Chairman of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities Hau A Lenh also visited the traditional craft village of Bau Truc Pottery and presented gifts to Mrs. Truong Thi Gach (80 years old) - the oldest artisan in Bau Truc Pottery village who is still practicing the craft.
