Welcoming the Year of the Dragon, Master Nguyen Hieu Tin, Head of Tourism, Ton Duc Thang University, has created 9 works of dragon calligraphy "Cuu Long Thu Do" very vividly as a message welcoming the new year of peace, happiness and success.

"It took me more than 6 months to create 9 dragon paintings, symbolizing "Nine Dragons Luck", said Master Tin.

After 6 months, Master Nguyen Hieu Tin has created paintings to welcome the year of the dragon.

According to Master Tin, among the 12 zodiac animals, the dragon is the only animal that does not exist in the natural world. It is very magical, because the dragon is not a pet, nor a wild animal, but a fictional animal created by human imagination.

Dragons can dive deep underwater, fly high in the sky, meander through golden palaces and can also call the wind and make rain...

Because of its unique physical form, extraordinary strength and many abilities, the dragon is considered a mystical animal.

With its versatile, magical nature and many symbolic values, especially closely associated with national traditions, the tong is a cultural symbol carrying the noble aspirations of the country "Descendants of the Dragon and Fairy".

Perhaps with that noble meaning, Mr. Tin created special calligraphy works about dragons that he called the school of calligraphy (drawing words).

With gentle movements, but strong pen force, with only a soft, flexible brush tip, with a combination of hardness and softness, sometimes elegant, sometimes deep, sometimes high, he has helped create dragon images with many rich appearances, full of the personality of the Vietnamese dragon...

The special thing is that the images of these dragons are all skillfully, ingeniously and creatively combined by the teacher from only 4 LONG characters in a unique way such as: the word Long creates a dragon image with the slender, graceful shape of the dragon of the Ly Dynasty, or the word Long creates a dragon-descending shape, or creates a dragon image in the ascending dragon position with a graceful, winding shape,...

More specifically, to welcome the year of the dragon, the master created the image of a dragon in a majestic, winding and impressive water-spraying position, as if bringing great fortune and luck to the spring named after his dragon.

All of Tin's dragon paintings show the characteristics of the dragon: flexibility: sometimes flying, sometimes hidden, sometimes appearing, sometimes on the ground, sometimes in the air, sometimes underwater, etc. and all express the wish for truth and goodness, bringing blessings for a new year expressed in the joyful, brilliant colors of spring.

The dragon paintings of the teacher also show part of the identity of Vietnamese dragons. The image of the dragon with its myriad forms and brilliant colors has appeared in poetry, literature, painting, sculpture and temple architecture of all ages.

"Calligraphy is like a destiny for me, I always cherish that. In the future, I will continue to do some more in-depth dissertations on Vietnamese calligraphy so that everyone can better understand the art of calligraphy," shared Master. Tin.

Lecturers at Ton Duc Thang University also believe that calligraphers must be humble, persistent and patient. In addition, they must always improve their knowledge, exchange and learn from their predecessors, and avoid letting the art of calligraphy lose its passion and become commercialized, causing the written words to lose their "sacredness".

MSc. Nguyen Hieu Tin was the first head of the Calligraphy Club of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House , author of the book "What is Calligraphy?" which was of interest and loved by the calligraphy community.

Currently, Mr. Hieu is in charge of the Tourism Department at Ton Duc Thang University . He has won the title of "Outstanding Young Lecturer for 3 consecutive years" organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union.

Mr. Hieu is also known as a stamp collector with many awards at home and abroad.

With a strong love for calligraphy, every year he creates paintings based on the mascot of that year.
