Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry (Ministry of Information and Communications) Le Nam Trung commented that Binh Dinh will become a bright spot, an emerging model with its own characteristics in applying AI and IoT to develop digital infrastructure.
On December 13, in Binh Dinh, the AI IoT Platform - Digital infrastructure for economic development workshop took place, organized by the Department of Information and Communications Industry (Ministry of Information and Communications) in coordination with the Department of Information and Communications of Binh Dinh.
IoT, AI market potential
At the workshop, experts and businesses shared experiences and practical and creative technological solutions, aiming at developing the economy based on digital platforms, promoting the digital economic development of Binh Dinh.
Mr. Le Nam Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry, said that in the digital economy era, artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have become two key technologies in shaping the future of the economy and society.
These are core technologies, platform technologies, the main agents of the digital transformation revolution.
AI and IoT stand out in their ability to create value from data, which when combined, not only enhances automation but also drives new innovations, increases efficiency, reduces costs and improves the quality of life, as well as business and consumer activities.
“The trend of applying AI and IoT to socio-economic development is inevitable, from serving individuals, families, businesses, organizations to communes, districts, cities and the whole country today,” Mr. Trung emphasized.
Assessing the potential of the IoT market, Mr. Dang Quy Long, Deputy Director of VNPT Technology Software Technology Center, said that the Vietnamese IoT market is growing strongly with a compound annual growth rate of 16.04%; revenue is expected to increase from 6.23 billion USD (in 2023) to 13.11 billion USD in 2028, the number of IoT connections is expected to increase to 147 million. Leading fields include IoT in healthcare, automobiles, logistics, etc.
“IoT is a potential ecosystem, forecast to continue to grow steadily,” said Mr. Long.
Meanwhile, Mr. Le Hong Viet, General Director of FPT Smart Cloud Company, said that AI will contribute 19.9 trillion USD to the world economy by 2030, and contribute to a 3.5% increase in global GDP by 2030.
The annual economic impact value of digital technology in Vietnam could reach 74 billion USD. AI is considered a new competitive ability in the new era.

As one of the leading localities in implementing the application of new technologies in Vietnam, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said that Binh Dinh has developed a comprehensive digital transformation plan, focusing on developing digital infrastructure, attracting high-quality human resources and applying advanced technologies in state management, production, business, as well as improving the quality of life of the people.
The province has been implementing many important projects such as using clean energy, building smart cities, developing digital agriculture, etc. in which AI and IoT play a key role.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Thao, Deputy Director of Binh Dinh Department of Information and Communications, said that in disaster prevention, Binh Dinh has applied IoT, AI, and installed surveillance cameras at places where flooding often occurs.
In the coming time, the locality will deploy many solutions to effectively bring IoT and AI devices into life.
The Deputy Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications Industry said that Binh Dinh is one of the potential localities with many advantages, daring to innovate drastically, and strongly striving in applying and developing AI and IoT to build modern digital infrastructure.
“With special attention from the Government, the efforts of the provincial government and the business community, I believe that Binh Dinh will become a bright spot, an emerging model with its own characteristics in applying AI and IoT to develop digital infrastructure,” said Mr. Trung.
To achieve this goal, he made 6 recommendations to Binh Dinh. Specifically, Binh Dinh needs to invest in smart connectivity infrastructure, including building an IoT sensor system for smart cities, especially in traffic, energy and environmental management; deploying 5G network infrastructure in industrial parks, urban areas and key economic zones; and building an AI IoT Research Center in Binh Dinh.
In addition, Binh Dinh needs to quickly build and deploy digital government step by step; develop an innovation ecosystem, create conditions for technology startups in the fields of AI and IoT by providing incubators, technology testing areas and capital support.
At the same time, promote digital transformation in key economic sectors, train digital human resources and build a favorable legal environment.
