On February 3, billionaire Elon Musk shared on social networking platform X: "I have to admit that the media reports that DOGE has some of the best software engineers in the world are true."

According to Wired magazine, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) led by Mr. Musk is being taken over by a group of 6 engineers aged 19-24 from Gen Z (the generation born between 1997 and 2012). They include Akash Bobba, Edward Coristine, Luke Farritor, Gautier Cole Killian, Gavin Kliger and Ethan Shaotran. The group of engineers are just out of school, or even still in college.

One of them is young engineer Gavin Kliger - special advisor to the director of OPM (US Office of Personnel Management).

Also on the list is Luke Farritor, a former SpaceX intern. According to the New York Times , Farritor was among the employees with access to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) system. He also worked as an executive engineer in the office of the secretary of Health and Human Services, and had an email account with the General Services Administration (GSA).

According to Wired magazine, Edward Coristine is also one of the key members of billionaire Elon Musk's team. He also worked for three months at Neuralink, Mr. Musk's brain-computer interface company. Coristine is listed on his internal profile as an "expert" at OPM.

What they all have in common is that they have virtually no government experience. Yet all six young engineers are playing key roles in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to cut staff and spending.

Wired commented that these 6 people are just part of billionaire Elon Musk's larger plan to hold key positions in the government.

Musk's team — which includes senior staff from xAI, Tesla and The Boring Company — has so far taken control of the US federal Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the General Services Administration (GSA), which are responsible for managing much of the transition process.

Wired reported that the young employees all had official GSA email addresses and high-level access, giving them access to sensitive physical spaces and IT systems, raising concerns that they could bypass normal security screening procedures.

“The ability of these individuals to take control of large agencies like OPM and GSA is difficult to believe, given that they lack the expertise needed to understand the legal and administrative needs involved,” said Nick Bednar, a law professor at the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Bednar warned that the inclusion of these young, inexperienced engineers in sensitive positions could lead to regulatory scrutiny. “This raises questions about whether they are truly serving the public interest, or are simply advancing the interests of Musk and his allies,” Mr. Bednar added.
