People in a village in Thailand discovered a strange cry in the forest, which became louder and more intense at night, so they avoided going out after dark and did not dare to go near it because they thought it was 'the sound of a ghost'.
A young man fell down an abandoned well in Thailand and was trapped for three days, but his cries for help were mistaken by many villagers as "ghosts", in a case that is attracting much attention from netizens in China.
According to Universal Daily News , on November 24, police in the Mae Sot area of Tak province (Thailand) received a report from some villagers about strange cries coming from a nearby forest.
When police and rescue workers entered the forest to investigate, they called out and were surprised to hear a response. Following the sound, they discovered a young Chinese man trapped at the bottom of a dry well 12 meters deep in the forest.
The rescue operation lasted 30 minutes and the victim was found in a weakened state with a broken left wrist, concussion and bruises all over his body. The victim was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.
Through an interpreter, the man, identified as Liu Chuanyi (22), revealed that he had been trapped in the well for three days and three nights without food or water. To conserve his strength, he only called for help once an hour.
Residents nearby said they had been hearing strange noises coming from the forest since three days ago, especially at night when the noises became louder and more intense. Believing the noises to be haunted, they avoided going out after dark and did not dare to investigate the source.
The victim is now out of danger. Rescue teams suspect he wandered into the woods and accidentally fell into the well while trying to find his way out.
The reason behind the man’s presence in Mae Sot, an area near the Myanmar border, is unclear. Authorities have contacted the immigration department to investigate how the Chinese national arrived in the area.
Meanwhile, authorities have sealed the well with a lid to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The incident has become a hot topic among Chinese netizens. "A Chinese man calling for help in the middle of nowhere. Of course, the locals don't understand the language and might think it's a witch casting a spell," one netizen commented on the South China Morning Post .
Another person admired the victim's endurance as he was still able to call for help after three days and nights.
