(Dan Tri) - The phone call between Russian leader Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump seems to have helped Moscow break the Western blockade.

For Russian President Vladimir Putin, a phone call with his American counterpart Donald Trump has been as big a turning point as any in the three-year conflict in Ukraine, according to the New York Times .
In a phone call between the two Russian and American leaders on February 12, President Trump sent a message to Mr. Putin: The two superpowers, Russia and the United States, should negotiate directly about the war in Ukraine and then move on to solving global issues, which are even more important.
It is the clearest sign yet that Mr Putin could emerge from the conflict in Ukraine with a redrawn map of Europe and Russia expanding its influence there.
The high-level Russia-US phone call took place on the same day as US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Washington would not support Ukraine's desire to join NATO.
Also on February 12, the US Senate approved Ms. Tulsi Gabbard, who is considered sympathetic to Mr. Putin, as Director of US National Intelligence.
Thus, in general, the above developments seem to be the "rewards" that Moscow reaps when they believe that President Trump has enough power to bring victory to Russia in Ukraine.
“Putin is playing a very smart game. He is 100% invested in trying to seduce Trump,” said Tatiana Stanovaya, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Center for Russia and Eurasia in Berlin.
According to a Russian parliamentarian, the phone call between Mr Putin and Mr Trump "broke the Western blockade" on Moscow.
Signs of optimism were evident as Russia’s main stock market index rose 5% on Monday morning to its highest level since last summer, while the ruble also rose against the dollar to its strongest level since September 2024.
According to the Kremlin, in addition to the Ukraine issue, Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin also mentioned "Russian-US bilateral relations in the economic field".
Russian businessmen hope that a peace deal with Mr Trump could lead to the lifting of sanctions against Russia.
