(Dan Tri) - Mr. Bui T. (in Hanoi) shared his family's Tet spending table of 108 million VND. Looking at the amount of money up to over 100 million VND, many people agree that Tet is the most expensive time of the year.
With just over 2 weeks left until the new year of At Ty 2025, many families have made a list of spending tables to balance the items that need attention during Tet.
On online forums, the topic of how much is enough to spend for Tet is also hotly discussed by many people. Some people give the figure of 20-30 million VND, but others affirm that you need to spend at least 40-50 million VND to have enough for a Tet.
Tet gives the most priority to family
Under an article on this topic, Mr. Bui T. (in Hanoi) shared his family's Tet spending table of 108 million VND.
Looking at the amount of money up to over 100 million VND, many people agree that Tet is the most expensive time of the year. Many opinions say that Mr. T's family's Tet spending table is too high compared to the average of young families.
Mr. T. said that his family has 4 members including 2 parents and 2 children (1 child is 4 years old and 1 child is 16 months old). He and his wife run an agricultural machinery business so they have a fairly stable income, about 100 million VND/month.
Mr. T. listed his expenses during Tet: 50 million VND for his grandmother to take care of his grandchildren for a year, 20 million VND for both paternal and maternal grandparents, 14 million VND for lucky money, 10 million VND for Tet shopping, 10 million VND for other expenses...
In his family's Tet spending table, Mr. T. spends most of the money on gifts for his parents, relatives and family members. For Mr. T., this is the most important priority.
"My family's Tet expenses are high because I give my grandmother money to take care of my grandchildren all year round. The remaining expenses are about 50 million VND. Basically, this is a normal number compared to our income," said Mr. T.
Many people think that listing the amount of gratitude for taking care of the children during Tet is unreasonable. However, Mr. T. said that it depends on each person's point of view. His parents live in Bac Ninh, his mother is just an ordinary worker, without a pension.
She went to Hanoi to help him and his wife take care of their grandchildren because she loved them and didn't think twice. So, on the occasion of Tet, he set aside a certain amount of money to give to his mother as a thank you. If it wasn't Tet, there would be no more appropriate occasion for him to give to his mother. "Let's consider Tet as an occasion to say thank you and show gratitude," Mr. T. shared.
No Tet bonus means "heavy negative" spending
Ms. Pham Thu Oanh (Bac Tu Liem, Hanoi) said that she works in the field of human resource recruitment and her husband is a construction engineer. Each month, the couple's income is 35 million VND, of which she spends about 20 million VND for her family of 4. However, during Tet alone, her spending is up to 46 million VND.
"I gave both sets of parents 10 million VND, gave both sets of parents 2 million VND as lucky money, gave the elders and grandchildren 4 million VND, Tet gifts, and shopping totaled 10 million VND...", Ms. Oanh listed.
Ms. Oanh has just changed companies so her Tet bonus is only about 5 million VND. Meanwhile, Ms. Oanh's husband is expected to receive a Tet bonus of 15 million VND.
"We expect our income for Tet to be around 53 million VND. Without the Tet bonus, our Tet spending will be "heavily negative", Ms. Oanh said.
According to this woman, her spending chart is only relative. Every year she lists out her expenses and tries to spend within the allowed limit. However, sometimes the amount still exceeds the budget due to many unexpected expenses.
Lunar New Year is always the time of year when spending the most money is needed because in addition to daily expenses and children's tuition fees, families also need to shop, give Tet gifts, go back to their hometowns, go on spring trips, etc. Expenses can become more expensive each year.
Many people therefore develop a "fear of Tet" mentality. Ms. Oanh believes that each family should spend money reasonably depending on their circumstances.
"I really look forward to Tet because this is an opportunity to meet relatives and friends. As the Tet atmosphere is getting weaker, I pay a lot of attention to Tet decorations to bring the atmosphere to my family.
These days, I also take my children out to play, to markets, to places with decorative miniatures so that they can feel the traditional Tet holiday," said Ms. Oanh.
