Grape growing in Ninh Thuan is gradually developing to new heights with more and more businesses investing in large-scale high-tech (CNC) grape production. However, grape production in reality still has many problems that need to be solved to open up development directions.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the biggest problem with grape growing is that the cultivation techniques are not reasonable, and the use of pesticides does not comply with the "4 rights" principle. On the other hand, grapevines require high-intensive techniques and large capital investments, but are easily damaged by erratic weather, so their development is not sustainable. The application of CNC in grape production has not been strongly developed, due to high investment costs. The application of science and technology, especially CNC in agricultural production, requires farmers to have a certain level of knowledge and qualifications. Meanwhile, the labor force serving the grape growing profession is currently lacking and weak. The technology for preliminary processing and preserving products after harvest is still limited, most people preserve grapes in normal conditions, so it only lasts about 3-5 days, so it is difficult to consume fresh grapes. It is forecasted that in the coming time, it will be greatly affected by the increasingly evident impacts of climate change, along with unpredictable natural disasters and droughts that continue to impact grape production; unstable consumption prices, and strong competitive pressure from imported goods. In addition, it will also be under competitive pressure from domestic localities with similar fruit products; the replication of CNC grape growing models is still limited and has not been expanded... are also difficulties that need to be overcome soon.

To expand the grape growing area in the coming years, the Department of Agriculture has surveyed and evaluated the potential of suitable grape growing areas, with a total area of over 7,905 hectares, of which about 4,000 hectares are irrigated. Based on the potential of the grape growing area, the Department of Agriculture has completed the planning of a safe grape growing area with a scale of 2,553 hectares; of which, Ninh Phuoc district has 1,716.68 hectares, Ninh Hai has 230.49 hectares, Thuan Nam has 252.27 hectares, Ninh Son has 142.29 hectares, Phan Rang - Thap Cham city has 211.48 hectares. The province has set out the orientation from now until 2030 to develop grape production in the direction of focusing on CNC application to increase productivity, quality, associated with eco-tourism and towards export. The province has set out the orientation from now until 2030 to develop grape production in the direction of focusing on CNC application to increase productivity, quality, associated with eco-tourism and aiming for export. By 2025, the grape area is expected to be about 1,770 hectares, with an output of 44.16 thousand tons/year; by 2030, the area will be about 2,000 hectares, with an output of 51.3 thousand tons/year. Research and test new grape varieties with higher quality and productivity than current varieties to expand and develop the market, especially the export market. Replicate CNC grape growing models, organic grape growing, ecological grape growing combined with vineyard sightseeing and experience tourism to exploit potential advantages to further enhance the value of grape trees.

Comrade Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: To achieve the above goal, the unit has advised the Provincial People's Committee on solutions to continue reviewing and adjusting the grape production planning to suit the reality of land and growing areas, ensuring good exploitation of the potential of lands suitable for grapes. Prioritize planning grape growing locations with concentrated areas, large-field production, creating advantages for investment in production infrastructure, traffic infrastructure, associated with experiential tourism. Develop a plan to convert areas of crops with low economic efficiency to grape growing; continue to complete technical and legal procedures to transfer high-yield, good-quality grape varieties for production. Encourage the development of quality-assured breeding gardens at facilities, farms, and agricultural extension groups in the province to both provide good varieties at reasonable prices and serve as a place for study tours to help grape farmers grasp more scientific and technical advances for application.

With the aim of cultivating grapes in a sustainable direction, in the coming time, scientific research will focus on research topics on sustainable nutrition, reasonable cropping season, integrated pest management on the basis of producing safe and sustainable products for crops and the ecological environment. Perfecting the technical process of grape production towards quality, applying CNC, associated with environmental protection, building technical processes for each different grape variety. Paying attention to investing, supporting, encouraging upgrading and renovating equipment and machinery for production and increasing capacity and scale through preferential credit programs and support policies of the province. Strengthening the capacity of cooperatives to build production chains associated with processing and consumption of products. Continuing to invest and perfect infrastructure in key grape growing areas to meet the production and consumption needs of grapes. Implement well the policies to support agriculture and rural areas, including the policy to support grapevines. At the same time, review and issue strong enough policies to serve the sustainable and effective development of grapevines. Create the most favorable conditions for people to both produce grapes and participate in farm and rural tourism programs to increase production efficiency.

To maintain the brand name "Ninh Thuan Grapes", creating trust for consumers, the province has proposed solutions to promote propaganda, guide and support businesses and small business households in implementing food safety in processing and investing in production according to a closed process, ensuring food safety, improving product quality, gradually applying advanced and reputable food quality management methods. Continue to support production and distribution units in consuming the province's special products in general, grape products in particular, participating in supply-demand connection conferences, market surveys, fairs, exhibitions; build market opportunity newsletters to provide information on prices and market situations of goods for people. Strengthen the capacity of cooperatives to build production chains associated with processing and consumption of products between cooperatives, farmers and businesses.

Policies and solutions to remove difficulties and promote grape production have affirmed the province's importance in investing in agriculture. With the right orientation, grape growing will develop rapidly, thereby creating favorable conditions for farmers to exploit the advantages of climate, soil, and specific fruits of the region to get rich.
