(CLO) Mr. Donald Trump has won the 2024 US Presidential election. According to the latest results, he won 277 electoral votes. Below are 3 factors that helped him achieve this spectacular success.
Rural areas overwhelmingly support Mr. Trump
Early in election night, Mr. Trump consolidated his support in Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia and North Carolina. That trend continued throughout the night.

But the victory in the Democratic battleground state of Pennsylvania was both spectacular and decisive. In rural counties across Pennsylvania, the general trend as the votes were counted was that Mr. Trump was both driving up turnout and winning support in the Republican heartland.
Suburbs stop shifting to Democrats
Given the Republican support in rural areas, Democrats must rely not only on winning urban centers but also on winning support in surrounding suburbs.
Those suburbs have been trending Democratic since 2016, but it's unclear whether that leftward shift will continue.

The first clear sign of trouble in the suburbs was Loudoun County in northern Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC, with a large population of college-educated voters.
Joe Biden won here by about 25 points in 2020. This year, Harris appears to be winning by about 17 points. In the Indianapolis suburbs of Hamilton County, Indiana, Harris trails Trump by about 6 points.
But some other suburbs across the country are still trending Democratic. In suburban counties around Atlanta, for example, Ms. Harris is on track to do slightly better than Mr. Biden in 2020, increasing the Democratic margin in Cobb and Gwinnett counties by about a point each.
Black and Latino voters shift to the Republican Party
Pre-election polls showed that Republicans were only dominant among non-Hispanic whites, while Democrats were more popular among blacks and Latinos.
However, preliminary results indicate that places with large Latino and black populations have seen some significant shifts from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
The clearest example is in Florida. The state has clearly shifted Republican, and so have its Latino voters. Miami-Dade County, once a Democratic county with a large Cuban-American population, has swung to support Mr. Trump by double digits.
Osceola, a county with a large Puerto Rican population, also swung to Trump, despite the Democrat winning by 14 points four years ago. Florida’s Latino population has shifted to Republicans since 2020.
Similar shifts occurred in Texas, where Mr. Trump widened his margin in the county he won in 2020, Zapata, and nearly tied Ms. Harris in Hidalgo and Webb counties.
Outside of Florida and Texas, which have turned red, exit polls and polls appear to paint a broader picture of declining support for Democrats among Latinos and blacks.
