The AWS Asia Pacific Region (located in Malaysia) will provide customers with more options to securely run applications and store data in Malaysia, while further reducing latency for end users.
Amazon Web Services (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) company, has launched the AWS Asia Pacific Region in Malaysia, giving developers, startups, entrepreneurs and enterprises, as well as government, educational and non-profit organizations more options to run their applications and serve their end users from AWS data centers located in Malaysia.
The construction and operation of the new AWS Region is estimated to contribute approximately US$12.1 billion (MYR57.3 billion) to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) and will support an average of more than 3,500 full-time jobs in other businesses annually between now and 2038. These jobs, which include construction, facilities maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and others across the country’s broader economy, will be part of the AWS supply chain in Malaysia.
“The new AWS Region in Malaysia enables organizations in the Asia Pacific region to fully tap into the potential of the world’s largest and most trusted cloud platform, helping customers deploy advanced applications with a variety of AWS technologies such as AI and ML,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President, Infrastructure Services at AWS.
Following the launch of the AWS Asia Pacific (Malaysia) Region, AWS now has 108 Availability Zones across 34 geographic regions, and has also announced plans to launch 18 additional availability zones and six AWS Regions in Mexico, New Zealand, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, and AWS European Sovereign Cloud.
