Apple 'headache' because of screen supplier

According to BGR , Apple is facing difficulties in the supply chain when screen supplier BOE has quality problems. This could affect the production of iPhone 14, 15 and 16, and also raises questions about the future of iPhone SE 4.

BOE supplier 'out of breath' due to Apple's quality requirements

OLED-info reports that BOE, one of the suppliers of AMOLED panels for the iPhone, is 'struggling' with quality issues. As a result, Apple is said to have diverted some display orders for the iPhone 14, 15 and 16 to two other companies, Samsung and LG.

Apple faces quality issues with display manufacturing partners

BOE is expected to take at least six weeks to fix the problem and restart production lines. Although it was expected to supply about 40 million panels to Apple, the company has only ordered about 7-8 million panels since the beginning of 2024 due to the delay.

While BOE’s problems with the current iPhone lineup are clear, the future of the iPhone SE 4 is a mystery. Previous rumors suggested that BOE would be the primary supplier of displays for the low-cost iPhone.

The fact that the iPhone SE 4 could be released this week has raised even more curiosity. Will BOE be able to secure enough screens for Apple in time?

A report from The Elec a few years ago revealed that neither Samsung nor LG were interested in producing displays for the iPhone SE 4 because the LTPS TFT technology was considered outdated. This could be an advantage for BOE, as the manufacturing process has a low technical difficulty. Furthermore, the demand for displays for the iPhone SE 4 is also much lower than for high-end iPhone models.

In addition to information about the supplier, rumors also show that the iPhone SE 4 will bring many notable changes. This could be Apple's first iPhone equipped with a 'homegrown' 5G modem. The classic design with the Home button will also be replaced with Face ID and a 6.1-inch OLED screen.

The tech world is now waiting for official information from Apple. Can BOE solve the quality problem? Will the iPhone SE 4 launch on time? And how will changes in the supply chain affect Apple? The answers will gradually be revealed in the future.
