Anker, a famous electronic accessories brand based in Shenzhen, China, has just announced a recall of three models of backup batteries due to manufacturing defects.
The affected models include the Power Bank, 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), and MagGo Power Bank, all of which use lithium-ion batteries and have been found to have a risk of overheating, causing internal plastic components to melt, which could lead to a fire or explosion.
Although there have been no reported incidents involving these products, Anker has decided to recall batches manufactured between January 3 and September 17, 2024 to ensure user safety. The products on the recall list are also currently being sold in Vietnam.
The three recalled power banks, from left to right, include the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K), MagGo Power Bank, and Power Bank.
In which, the Anker 334 MagGo Battery (PowerCore 10K) model, code A1642, capacity 10,000 mAh, costs 1 million VND; Power Bank, code A1647, capacity 20,000 mAh, costs 1.38 million VND and MagGo Power Bank, code A1652, capacity 10,000 mAh, costs 1.4 million VND.
Users in Vietnam can check the product code by looking at the bottom of the rechargeable battery. If you own one of the recalled battery models, users are advised not to throw the battery in the trash or recycle it, but to store it in a safe place and return it via the website provided by Anker.
Anker said the issue was caused by a change in supplier during the manufacturing process. The company is conducting thorough checks and reviews to prevent similar situations from occurring in the future. "We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and concern this may have caused to our customers," an Anker representative said.
This isn’t the first time Anker has faced a product recall. In 2016, the company recalled a series of USB-C charging cables due to a manufacturing defect that damaged the connector. This incident continues to pose a major reputational challenge for the brand, which is known for its high-quality chargers and accessories.
