On February 17, Ms. Giang Phuong Thanh (38 years old, residing in Dak Ta Lay commune, Mang Yang district, Gia Lai province) shared with reporters of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper about the incident of her coffee garden being destroyed by her brother-in-law.

Previously, the police had detained Mr. Dang Van Them (38 years old, residing in Dak Ta Lay commune, Mang Yang district) to investigate the act of destroying Ms. Thanh's garden. Mr. Them is the husband of Ms. Thanh's cousin.

Mr. Dang Van Them is the suspect in destroying his brother-in-law's garden.

According to Ms. Thanh, 6 years ago, she and her husband separated but were not divorced. More than a year ago, Mr. Them asked Ms. Thanh to take her 2 young children to Dak Ta Lay commune, Mang Yang district to buy a piece of land to cultivate and raise the children.

Mr. Them also lent Ms. Thanh 300 million VND to buy land. When Ms. Thanh bought the land, Mr. Them asked to be the name on the deposit, and after the divorce was settled, he would transfer the land to Ms. Thanh.

However, after Ms. Thanh moved to Dak Ta Lay commune to live, Mr. Thanh used the deposit paper to threaten Ms. Thanh to have a relationship with him.

"When I saw Mr. Them helping my mother and I come here to do business, I was very grateful. I didn't think he had any intentions towards me because he was married and I was his sister-in-law," said Ms. Thanh.

Ms. Thanh's coffee, durian and pepper gardens were destroyed.

According to Ms. Thanh, after buying the field and taking better care of the garden, Mr. Them and his wife wanted to change the garden, but she did not agree.

After that, Ms. Thanh suspected that Mr. Them was the one who repeatedly caused damage by throwing rocks on the roof for many consecutive days, destroying the pump, stealing oil... The purpose was to scare Ms. Thanh into selling the farm again or forcing Ms. Thanh to live with Mr. Them.

"Mr. Them is the one who cut down my garden, but he still came to my house to curse me, saying how can I live to be destroyed like this?" - Ms. Thanh said.

According to Ms. Thanh, she still owes Mr. Them and his wife 200 million VND and the bank 140 million VND. Now that the garden has been destroyed, she is worried that she will not have enough income to pay off the debt at the end of the year.

Ms. Thanh cried, worried that her garden was destroyed and she would have no money to raise her two children and pay off her debts.

Previously, as reported by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper , on February 12, Ms. Giang Phuong Thanh visited the garden and discovered that her family's coffee, durian, and pepper gardens had been cut down en masse by thieves.

Ms. Thanh quickly reported to the local authorities. While the authorities were investigating and arresting the perpetrator, on February 14, Ms. Thanh’s garden was again destroyed by thieves. In the second attack, nearly 100 coffee trees, 4 durian trees and 200 pepper trees were destroyed.
