According to India Today , the K-4 submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) uses solid fuel and has a target range of 3,500 km.
Despite multiple media reports, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) or the Indian Navy have so far not made any official statement on the matter.
However, India has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and public warning about a medium-range missile test over the 3,490 km flight corridor from November 27-30.
According to ANI news agency, the results of the test are being analyzed by defense officials.
In the past few years, the K-4 has only been tested from submerged buoys. This is the first time India has tested the K-4 missile from INS Arighaat, which was commissioned into the Indian Navy in August.
The 6,000-ton INS Arighaat is India's third and newest nuclear-powered submarine, with a displacement of 7,000 tons, and is likely to be commissioned next year.
Last month, India's Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the construction of two more nuclear-powered attack submarines to boost New Delhi's presence in the Indo-Pacific.
