4 expressways will increase service fees

The expressways Noi Bai - Lao Cai, Cau Gie - Ninh Binh, Da Nang - Quang Ngai, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay will increase service fees from February 1.

Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) decided to increase the toll fee on Cau Gie - Ninh Binh and Da Nang - Quang Ngai expressways from 1,500 VND/km to 1,680 VND for standard vehicles (up 12%). Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway increased from 2,000 VND/km to 2,100 VND/km (up 5%).

The Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway toll increased by 12%. Of which, the Noi Bai - Yen Bai section with 4 lanes increased from 1,500 VND/km to 1,680 VND/km for standard vehicles; the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section with 2 lanes increased from 1,000 VND/km to 1,120 VND/km.

VEC also continues to apply the value-added tax rate of 8% from January 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024, based on Decree No. 94/2023 on regulations on value-added tax reduction policy.

Vietnam Expressway Corporation said that the financial plan for expressway projects invested by VEC has a roadmap for periodic toll increases every 3 years, each time increasing by 12%. However, the expressway projects have not had toll increases since they were put into operation, and at times the tolls have been reduced to support businesses according to the Government's direction.

From 2024, VEC's road construction loan repayment costs will increase continuously while the expressways are due for major repairs. If the fee remains the same, it will affect the financial plans of the projects.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport agreed to increase fees on 4 expressways managed and operated by VEC. The Ministry requested the management enterprise to inspect, review, decide on prices, and adjust prices on 4 expressways according to its authority, not exceeding the maximum price (VND2,100/km) and the affordability of users, harmonizing the interests of the state, people and businesses.

Since December 29, 41 BOT traffic projects with 47 toll stations on many national highways and expressways have also increased fees from 15 to 20%.
