Stressful surgery to save injured boy
At the City Children's Hospital, K. lay still, with a breathing support bag, pale lips, and cool limbs. The radial pulse was weak, blood pressure was unmeasurable, and the heart rate was 120 beats per minute... K. was diagnosed with hemorrhagic shock, grade 5 liver injury, and bilateral lung contusions.
The Emergency Department team urgently set up a central line, continuously rehydrated the blood; activated the red alert procedure, mobilized doctors from the departments: General Surgery - Thoracic, Vascular, and transferred to surgery that same night.
During the surgery, the team lowered a complicated liver laceration more than 10 cm long, 4 cm deep, and many lobes, blood filled the abdomen, and more than 2,000 ml was aspirated. The entire intestine was pale and edematous due to lack of blood supply. The anesthesia team continuously replenished blood and blood products to maintain the child's vital blood pressure. The patient lost nearly 3 liters of blood from the time of the accident until the end of the emergency surgery... After 4 stressful hours, the surgery was successful.
Today, after 5 days of intensive post-operative resuscitation, K. has gradually regained consciousness, improved affected organ functions, pink skin and mucous membranes, soft abdomen, and is out of danger.
