According to information from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, as of noon today, the entire city has 126 schools temporarily suspending in-person learning due to the impact of heavy rain.

Compared to yesterday, the number of schools closed increased by nearly 10 units. If the weather continues to be complicated and there is heavy rain, the number of schools that will have to temporarily suspend in-person classes is forecast to be even higher.

Ms. Van Thuy Duong, Vice Principal of Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School , said that the school decided to let students take a day off from school from the afternoon of September 10 at both Cau Giay and Tan Trieu campuses. From this morning, online learning via Zoom application has been taking place in all grades.

"According to information from teachers in the school, this morning's online class went smoothly, the connection was strong and stable, 100% of the classes were full, and students were excited to participate in the lesson with the teachers," said Ms. Thuy Duong, adding that parents all agreed and supported the online teaching plan, ensuring safety for students during the rainy and flooded days in Hanoi.

This vice principal also suggested that in the current context of floods, Hanoi should direct 100% of schools to organize online learning to ensure safety for students, not just in flooded areas, "students should not go to school on these days".

According to Ms. Duong, Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School closely monitors the weather every day, and reviews all conditions of facilities and equipment, ensuring absolute safety before organizing direct teaching. During the online teaching process, the school still ensures the progress and plan for the 2024-2025 school year for students.

Sharing the same view, Dr. Nguyen Tung Lam, Chairman of the Education Council of Dinh Tien Hoang High School (Ba Dinh), said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning has become familiar, and teachers and students will not face difficulties when they cannot go to school.

This person said that Dinh Tien Hoang High School will organize online teaching from now until the weather is more stable and safe enough for students to return to class.

"Online teaching took place this morning. According to information and inspection, some students from the school in the Red River area are evacuating with their families due to floods, so they cannot attend online classes. The remaining classes have guaranteed attendance," he informed.
