International Chinese Language Day 2024 and Chinese Cultural Experience Activities

HANU - On April 15, 2024, Hanoi University organized a Vietnam - China cultural exchange program "International Chinese Language Day" 20240. Guests attending the program included Mr. Trinh Dai Vi - Education Counselor, Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, Ms. Tran Thuy Duong - Principal of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted. Representatives of Hanoi University attending the program included Vice Principal Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong and teachers who are leaders of the International Cooperation Department, Chinese Language Department, Confucius Institute at Hanoi University, along with a large number of students and pupils of the Chinese language major (Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Principal Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong shared: Chinese is identified as one of the six official languages ​​of the United Nations. In 2010, the United Nations decided to make April 20 every year the International Chinese Language Day. Since then, every year, the United Nations and many countries around the world have organized activities to celebrate the International Chinese Language Day, creating a bridge of friendly exchange for people of countries with different languages.
In Vietnam, Chinese is increasingly occupying an important position in the education system. In particular, at Hanoi University, every year, the Chinese language major of different training systems is enrolling about 400 - 450 students; the admission score for the regular Chinese language major is also very high. That shows that the labor market needs human resources who know Chinese is wide open. It can be said that China is Vietnam's largest trading partner, so the labor market for Chinese human resources is always very abundant. Vice Principal Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong emphasized that in the current context, in addition to studying Chinese well, learning more about Chinese language and culture is necessary. The Confucius Institute of Hanoi University is a unit that has made great contributions to the University, not only in teaching Chinese but also through many other programs and activities to promote cultural exchange between Vietnam and China. On this occasion, Vice Principal Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong expressed her gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam and the Confucius Institute for always creating conditions to organize interesting activities for students and wished them many meaningful experiences when attending the program at Hanoi University today.
Speaking at the program, Education Counselor Trinh Dai Vi, the representative of the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, said that since 2010, on the occasion of Guwu every year, the International Chinese Language Day has been held all over the world. Through rich cultural and artistic activities, it promotes the understanding and love of people of all countries for Chinese characters and language. This year, the theme of the International Chinese Language Day was chosen as " Chinese: Building a bridge of mutual learning and civilization ". The exchange and cooperation between China and Vietnam in the new period is currently developing strongly in all fields. During the visit to Vietnam in December last year, General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong announced the joint construction of a community of shared future between China and Vietnam with strategic significance, drawing a bright picture of comprehensive strategic cooperation between China and Vietnam in the new period.
Mr. Trinh Dai Vi affirmed: Hanoi University is not only the leading unit in the field of Chinese language education in Vietnam but also one of the higher education institutions with the largest number of Chinese international students in Vietnam. Expressing gratitude for the contributions of Hanoi University in Chinese language teaching as well as China-Vietnam cultural exchange activities, Mr. Trinh Dai Vi pledged that the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam will always fully support the International Chinese Language Day and the Chinese language teaching and research of Hanoi University in the coming time.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Tran Thuy Duong - Principal of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted said that the process of cultural exchange between Vietnam and China is also promoted at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted through many extracurricular activities organized every year. Students majoring in Chinese at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted have a passion and love for Chinese language and culture. Therefore, attending today's program at Hanoi University is an opportunity for them to expand their knowledge of Chinese language and culture, and to further their attachment and love for the uniqueness and rich traditions of this culture. Ms. Tran Thuy Duong believes that students majoring in Chinese at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted will become ambassadors spreading their passion and learning about Chinese language - culture - people to other young people; contributing to strengthening the lasting friendship between the two countries.
"International Chinese Language Day" 2024 is organized by the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University in collaboration with the Center for Language Exchange and Cooperation between China and Foreign Countries (CLEC), Guangxi Normal University, Guangxi Normal University Publishing House Group and the Executive Committee of the Youth Union - Student Association of the Chinese Language Department, Hanoi University with many rich and attractive activities such as: Chinese cuisine, artistic ink painting, decorative Chinese paper cutting, Vietnamese Ao Dai and ancient Han costumes, calligraphy, lucky string weaving... Through the Vietnam - China Cultural Experience Day program, it aims to create opportunities for Vietnamese and international students, those who love Vietnamese and Chinese language and culture to experience the traditional culture of each country, enhancing the connection and mutual understanding of the people of the two countries.
