According to the Daily Mail, EURO 2024 is facing security concerns as impersonators have been found infiltrating stadiums. The incident stemmed from a YouTuber named Marvin Wildhage, who sneaked into the stadium where the match between Germany and Scotland was taking place using a sophisticated trick.
The guy who owns a YouTube channel with more than 870,000 subscribers filmed the entire process of entering the Munich Arena stadium with two colleagues without having to buy tickets.
In the shared video, Windhage said he searched social media posts to determine the color, design of the lanyard and the QR code that EURO staff were using to copy.
Next, he rented a black Volkswagen, which had a fake German Football Association emblem on it. Windhage also put the words "Volkswagen Mobile Service" on the windows. By forging the parking pass information, he convinced the security forces to let him into the stadium.
To enter the stands, YouTuber Windhage changed into an outfit similar to the official mascot of EURO 2024 - the teddy bear Albert. In the bear costume, Wildhage freely walked into the stadium, waving, dancing and taking pictures with the audience.
At the end of the video, the 27-year-old YouTuber was discovered by security and escorted off the field. He was accompanied by two other men who acted as cameramen. After just 1 day of posting, Wildhage's video attracted more than 1.3 million views.
According to Windhage, it cost more than $3,400 to prepare the mascot, rent a car and related accessories.
The media revealed that the male YouTuber had repeatedly impersonated people to infiltrate the stadium where the German team was playing.
Previously, in a video posted in August 2023, Wildhage also disguised himself as German entertainer Jens Knossalla to enter the field.
Following the incident, the European Football Federation banned Wildhage from attending EURO 2024: "We can confirm that there was an incident with a fake mascot costume at the match in Munich on 14 June 2024 between Germany and Scotland. UEFA has assessed the situation and initiated the necessary security measures.
The three individuals involved have been banned from entering stadiums hosting EURO 2024 matches. Please understand that we cannot provide any further information as legal proceedings are currently being carried out by the investigating authorities."
