Notably, fruit and vegetable exports grew the most with more than 2.7 billion USD, up 64% over the same period in 2022; rice exports reached 2.3 billion USD, up 22% in volume and 34% in export value; coffee reached 2.41 billion USD (up 3%); cashew nuts reached 1.62 billion USD (up 7.7%)...
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, this year, fruit and vegetable exports may reach over 4 billion USD, of which durian will reach approximately 3 billion USD. Durian exports to China in the first 5 months of the year reached 1.3 billion USD. Previously, in the whole of 2022, durian exports only reached 1.5 billion USD. Regarding rice, in the first 5 months of this year, the Philippines imported 1.5 million tons of rice from Vietnam and it is forecasted that this year, the country will import another 1.5 million tons.
In 2022, Indonesia did not buy rice from Vietnam but this year it is expected to buy 1 million tons; China may also buy an additional 500,000 tons. In the context that India, a rice exporter to about 150 countries and territories, is considering suspending rice exports, many countries are looking to Vietnamese rice; the above factors will be a good development opportunity for the Vietnamese rice market.
The World Bank (WB) forecasts that China's economic growth will recover to 5.6% in 2023. This is the largest importer of agricultural products from Vietnam, so it is likely that from now until the end of the year, agricultural exports to this market will continue to grow.
Returning to being Vietnam's largest seafood export market, in May 2023, the US market showed signs of improvement. Similarly, in the Japanese market, with the connection of trade counselors, many businesses have connected and cooperated with Japanese businesses. With these moves, according to many experts, Vietnam has a complete basis to achieve the agricultural export turnover as set out.
