In the first three months of this year, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.25 billion USD, up 27% over the same period last year.
The above information has been noticed by many international newspapers and experts, and the international press has assessed this as a bright spot of Vietnam's economy in the first quarter.
Xinhua News Agency published an article titled "Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export revenue exceeds 1 billion USD in the first quarter" - this is the first time the value has exceeded 1 billion USD in the first quarter of Vietnam. Notably, the consumption of Vietnamese durian has skyrocketed in Thailand, making this country the 4th largest importer of Vietnamese fruit and vegetables.
Bangladesh state news agency (BSS) emphasized that Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports are forecast to reach 6.5 billion USD this year, after setting a record of nearly 5.6 billion USD in 2023. China, South Korea, the US, Thailand, and Japan remain the main export markets for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.
Mr. Watanabe Shige - Deputy Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam assessed: "Vietnamese agricultural products can penetrate deeply into Japan when meeting international food safety standards or Japanese organic agricultural standards. Taking advantage of this geographical indication protection regime will also contribute to enhancing the brand of Vietnamese agricultural products".

Nikkei Asia noted that Vietnam's rice exports in 2023 reached $4.6 billion, up 35% from the previous year. Exports to Indonesia increased more than 10 times, while exports to Singapore increased about 40% and Ghana increased about 60%. Despite high temperatures and low rainfall in many parts of Asia due to El Nino, Vietnam's rice output in 2023 appears to have increased 1-2% from the previous year, to more than 43 million tons.
"Vietnam is demonstrating its important role in ensuring world food security. You need to be prepared for future changes, not only next year but also for a 5-10 year journey with sustainable solutions, greening agriculture," said Mr. Oscar Ortin - Senior Director of the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research Agencies (CGAIR).
The Star newspaper emphasized that Vietnam's agriculture, forestry and fishery sector had a trade surplus nearly double compared to the same period last year, thanks to strong exports of key products such as coffee, rice and fruit.
