Come to the Central Circus once to feel the magic of an art form that is gradually reviving, where each performance leaves an unforgettable mark on the audience. Vietnamese Circus is not simply a form of performance but also a bridge that brings traditional culture together with modern values, bringing a new breath, full of vitality and rich in meaning.
Unique art space
During the 90-minute performance, the audience was overwhelmed with many emotions. From excitement, heart-stopping or being amazed by the adventurous circus acts such as rope swinging, somersaulting, spinning in the air... to the relaxing and entertaining emotions with the funny animal circus acts.
Professional, talented artists from the Central Circus brought a mysterious, brilliant stage with the act of Swinging the Hat, combining strange movements of international stature; the adventurous and bustling aerial juggling act with the Northwest mountainous market; the lingering emotions with the rope swing performance telling the love story of Lang Biang...
The harmonious and delicate combination of music, light, and skillful techniques of the stunts have created a unique artistic space - where the audience is captivated and cannot take their eyes off. Each performance has its own color, its own mark, and thus becomes the "key" to creating the identity of Vietnamese circus.

Constantly innovating with the times
It can be seen that, along with the development of technology and the rise of many modern forms of entertainment, circus art is gradually losing its inherent appeal.
However, in recent years, amidst numerous difficulties and challenges, Vietnamese circus art has continuously strived to develop and innovate, from staging forms, diversifying artistic products to exploiting the market.
These are all new steps of the Central Circus in conquering domestic and international audiences.
One of the key factors is the integration of modern elements into traditional circus acts. Instead of acrobatics or animal circus acts, today's performances have innovated and brought more excitement to the audience.
Not only performing, the artists told stories using circus language and many unique movements, thereby creating impressive performances, conveying humane messages. Circus also combines with many other artistic languages such as rock music, reformed opera, magic... to promote the advantages of both. The shows are also built to be more suitable for different audiences, from children to teenagers.
In particular, the program also features the performance of the Four-Female Conical Hat Swing, which won the Silver Medal at the 8th IDOL World Circus Festival in Russia in July 2024.
According to artist Luu Thi Huong, one of the four members performing this act, Vietnamese circus is now "starting to change, such as performing many plays, rewriting them to attract and help young people both learn and watch art without getting bored.
The act of Swinging Conical Hats also changed when the director, People's Artist Tong Toan Thang, made the group wear traditional conical hats combined with modern melodies in the song Hello Vietnam. Many Vietnamese people in Russia who came to watch the Circus Festival were very excited, recorded videos and posted them on Tiktok, quickly spreading on the online community.
In addition, the Central Circus also proactively expands its audience by actively promoting circus products to the public through the creation and introduction of a series of quality performances throughout the year.

Recharge your batteries
Circus art is not only a form of entertainment but also a proud cultural heritage. Behind each sparkling stage performance are years of hard work, sweat and burning passion of the artists.
Ms. Phuong, an audience member, shared: “When I was young, I went to the circus with excitement, but now I go to the circus with the desire to experience the culture of my country. I really hope that young people will know more about and enjoy at least once such beautiful and brilliant performances.”
Mr. Duong, who often watches circus videos on Tiktok, decided to go to the Central Circus instead of choosing other activities on the weekend. After watching the entire performance, he appreciated the quality of the performances because they were all international award-winning acts. However, Mr. Duong was also concerned that this type of art lacks the energy of young people in communication.
He expressed: “In fact, with any art form, the media also plays an important role. Currently, with the creativity of young people, especially the Gen Z generation, the media about our country's culture will be pushed higher. I personally know about these art forms through Tiktok and the ways of communication of young people make me feel very appreciative.”
Along with the modern pace of life, Vietnamese circus is changing strongly and constantly innovating to meet the increasing demands of the audience. The public's interest and support is a valuable source of motivation, giving new energy to the artists' tireless creative efforts.
Circus is one of the oldest art forms in Vietnam. Up to now, Vietnamese circus has had all the following categories: acrobatics, juggling, high trapeze, balancing, magic, clowning, variety shows, animal circus… and has initially experimented with staging some circus shows with themes in a modern style but based on traditional Vietnamese cultural materials. The Central Circus is one of the oldest circuses in Vietnam. Until now, the Circus has developed and preserved the beauty of Vietnamese circus art. |
