Recently, Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid visited Google's office in Paris, France and asked the tech company to support the Indonesian government's efforts to protect children in the digital space.
During a meeting with YouTube Vice President of Public Policy Leslie Miller, Minister Meutya Hafid invited Google to work with the Indonesian government to provide a safer digital environment and space for children.
"The government will implement stricter regulations to protect children from exposure to dangerous content such as pornography and online gambling," Meutya Hafid said.
According to data from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Indonesia is among the top four countries with the highest number of child pornography cases globally.
Meanwhile, a report by the Financial Transactions Report and Analysis Center (PPATK) shows that the number of online gamblers under the age of 10 has reached 80,000, accounting for about 2% of the total number of gamblers in the archipelago country.
According to Ms. Leslie Miller, Indonesia is one of the major markets for YouTube, one of Google's products. Therefore, the corporation is ready to support the Indonesian government's initiative to improve child protection in the digital space.
“We stand ready to work with the Indonesian government to ensure our platform is safer for all users, especially children,” said Leslie Miller.
