Tesla’s dominance in the global electric vehicle market is undeniable. In 2024, the American company sold more than 657,000 electric vehicles in China, up 8.8% from 2023. This is the only market where other brands like Xiaomi can compete, while Tesla still holds a monopoly in many other markets.
However, the appearance of the SU7 model from Xiaomi in 2024 really made Tesla feel scared after the company sold 135,000 SU7s in just a few months on the shelves. Things are getting more difficult for Tesla as Xiaomi is expected to continue expanding its market share in 2025 with plans to launch 3 new electric car models, leading analysts to expect that Xiaomi can surpass Tesla in the future.
Note that the Xiaomi SU7 is currently only available in China, and no other Xiaomi models have been released yet, although the company has teased the products. The first model expected to be launched in 2025 is the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance electric vehicle with 1,548 horsepower and 1,770 Nm of torque, priced at over €105,000. It will be introduced in the first quarter of 2025 as one of the brand's most powerful sports cars.
Not just Xiaomi SU7 Ultra
In addition to the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi is also expected to launch another important model, the Xiaomi YU7, around June to July. Although rumors say that the YU7 will have many similar features to the SU7, the details have not been confirmed yet. The launch of this model depends on the production capacity of Xiaomi's factory.
In addition, Xiaomi is also considering developing a hybrid SUV codenamed Kunlun in the fourth quarter of 2025. Kunlun is said to have rear-wheel drive and a hybrid engine, with a starting price of around 20,000 EUR.
In short, 2025 promises to be a breakout year for Xiaomi, with the goal of delivering a total of 300,000 electric vehicles to the market. However, the road ahead remains challenging with strong competition from Tesla and other rivals.
