Mr. Yan Cheng Long, 48, defeated dozens of opponents last week to win the title of "King of Xiangqi" at the national tournament organized by the China Xiangqi Association (CXA).

But that joy did not last long because on December 25, CXA announced that Mr. Nhan would be stripped of his title and his prize money after being caught "disturbing public order".

The organization was also forced to speak out against rumors that Mr. Nhan cheated in the competition by inserting a wireless transmitter into his anus to send and receive signals.

According to rumors circulating on social media, Mr. Nhan is said to have rhythmically contracted his anus to convey information about the chessboard to the computer, which then sent back instructions about moves in the form of vibrations.

"Based on our understanding of the incident, it is currently impossible to prove that Mr. Nhan committed fraud through 'anal beads' as speculated on social media," CXA said.

However, Mr. Nhan was still stripped of his title and banned from competing for a year after his inappropriate celebration.

"Mr. Nhan drank alcohol with others in the room on the night of the 17th, then defecated in the room's bathtub on the 18th. This is an act of vandalism to hotel property, violating public order and morality, negatively affecting the activities of Chinese chess competitions and events, and is very ugly," said the CXA statement.

The association did not disclose the amount of prize money Mr. Nhan was confiscated, but chess tournaments often promise to award winners thousands of dollars.

Last week, CXA posted on social media to congratulate Mr. Nhan and other players for their “spectacularly engaging high-level play.”
