Meanwhile, two US government officials confirmed to CBS News on the same day that a group of advisers to US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian officials this week in Saudi Arabia to begin negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine.
According to The Kyiv Independent, the delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff will represent President Trump in the discussions.
The sources did not specify whether a Ukrainian delegation would be present at the talks. While Ukraine did not confirm its participation in a potential meeting in Saudi Arabia, Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Yulia Sviridenko said a government delegation had begun a working visit to Riyadh.
On Facebook , Ms. Sviridenko said: "Dozens of meetings will be held in the coming days to prepare for President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Saudi Arabia. In particular, we will prepare to sign important economic agreements with countries in this region."
Meanwhile, on February 16, speaking to reporters in Palm Beach, Florida, President Trump expressed his expectation that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would participate in the negotiations.
According to him, the US administration is "working" to be able to end the conflict in Ukraine, emphasizing that Russia wants to negotiate, otherwise this will be a big problem for Washington.
The White House boss also revealed that a meeting between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place "very soon" when asked about the possibility of an upcoming meeting between the two leaders in Saudi Arabia.
