Vinh Phuc strives to 'green' for sustainable development

Tạp chí Doanh NghiệpTạp chí Doanh Nghiệp23/11/2024

DNVN - Vinh Phuc is actively building a green transformation strategy, aiming for the Net Zero goal. This "green" journey requires the cooperation and determination of the government, businesses and people to overcome current challenges.

At the Conference "Green transformation - awareness and action for a sustainable future of Vinh Phuc" on November 23 in Vinh Phuc, Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee Tran Duy Dong said that after nearly 30 years of re-establishment, the province's economy has developed strongly with a high economic growth rate, averaging 13.8% per year in the period 1997-2022. The scale of the economy in 2023 is 158.1 trillion VND, ranking 14th nationwide. The economic structure has shifted positively towards industrialization and modernization, playing the leading role and driving force for economic development. The industrial and construction sector in 2023 accounts for more than 62%.

However, according to Mr. Dong, Vinh Phuc is also facing challenges related to the environment, climate change; lack of waste and wastewater treatment plants; a large number of production projects deployed outside industrial parks and industrial clusters related to raw material production industries such as steel, iron, construction materials, etc.

Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee Tran Duy Dong said that the province is gradually researching, developing and implementing a green transformation strategy to achieve the Net Zero goal.

In this context, Vinh Phuc is gradually researching, developing and implementing a green transformation strategy to achieve the Net Zero target, in line with the Prime Minister’s orientations and policies. This strategy includes developing sustainable infrastructure, protecting the environment and encouraging renewable energy solutions.

The Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee also frankly pointed out that, in reality, the implementation of "green transformation" solutions still faces many difficulties and confusion, not only for state agencies but also for businesses in the province.

Dr. Nguyen Si Dung - former Deputy Head of the National Assembly Office emphasized that green transformation is not only a task but also an opportunity for Vinh Phuc province to improve its competitiveness and create the image of a modern and sustainable locality.

Accordingly, the province needs to integrate green transformation into provincial strategies and planning; promote energy transformation, in which it should encourage enterprises in industrial parks to invest in modern, energy-saving production technology, and at the same time develop a public transport system using renewable energy.

As an industrial hub, Vinh Phuc needs to promote the eco-industrial park model. Industrial parks such as Binh Xuyen or Phuc Yen can become models in applying the circular economy: using waste from one enterprise as input materials for another.

Along with mobilizing green financial resources, the province needs to strengthen environmental management, promote regional cooperation and connectivity. In particular, it is necessary to train a team of officials with knowledge and skills in green transformation management, and at the same time, promote awareness among people and businesses about their role in reducing emissions.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of Import and Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade).

Sharing solutions to improve the business investment environment towards a green economy and sustainable development, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that the province needs to develop a logistics development plan in line with the strategy. Support the formation of large enterprises with leading roles. Build large, modern, smart, and automated logistics zones and centers.

In particular, according to Mr. Hai, greening is an imperative for logistics businesses today. Accordingly, businesses must convert energy, save energy, and optimize processes. Import-export businesses need to cooperate with logistics businesses to find optimal solutions for the supply chain. Prepare scenarios to respond to fluctuations in the market and supply chain as well as maximize the effectiveness of FTAs.

From a business perspective, Ms. Le Thi Thu Thuy - Vice President of Vingroup and President of VinFast shared that aiming for a sustainable future is the mission that Vingroup is determined to carry out. To realize that mission, Vingroup has initiated the campaign "Fierce Vietnamese Spirit - For a Green Future" as a strong commitment of the Group to accompany the country on the path of sustainable development.

"Vingroup wishes to accompany Vinh Phuc in researching solutions to promote green tourism, green industry, green urban infrastructure, green transportation and green lifestyle, contributing to improving the quality of life of people and promoting the local economy in an increasingly sustainable direction," said Ms. Thuy.

With effective governance orientations and the joint efforts of the government, businesses and people, delegates shared the view that Vinh Phuc can completely successfully achieve the goal of zero net emissions, contributing to building a green future for the province and the country.
