On July 18, Mr. Dao Anh Xuan Nhut, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh Long province, said that the province has just identified 9 more sand mines that are expected to be exploited to supply the Ring Road 3 project (HCMC) and the North-South Eastern Expressway in the 2021-2025 phase, Can Tho - Ca Mau section (Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway).

Accordingly, after survey, 9 sand mines recorded a total reserve of about 4.5 million m3. Including: Quoi An - Quoi Thien 2 mine (about 82,725 m3); Tan Binh 2 (about 1.1 million m3): Phu Thanh - Ngai Tu (203,237 m3);
Binh Hoa Phuoc 2 (about 596,778m3); Thanh Duc 2 (about 168,125m3); Chanh An (about 924,140m3); Phu Thanh 1 - Dong Phu (about 603,375m3); Phu Thanh 2 (about 434,720m3) and Luc Sy Thanh (about 441,750m3).
Of these 9 mines, two are expected to support the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway.
"From the proposal of the My Thuan Project Management Board as well as through surveys and re-evaluation of reserves by the relevant authorities, Vinh Long plans to extend the exploitation of these 9 mines to supply the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway project and Ring Road 3," informed the Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh Long province.
In the period of 2021 - 2025, the Mekong Delta and Southeast regions will implement 16 projects, including the North-South Expressway project in the East, Can Tho - Ca Mau section, and the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project. All projects are subject to a special mechanism for granting common construction material mines.
According to the report, the total demand for sand for these 16 projects is about 63 million m3. With the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, investors and localities, the source of about 37.3 million m3 has been identified so far.
Of which, Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway has identified a source of 16 million m3, with conditions to exploit 13 million m3.
The Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3 project currently mainly uses commercial sand with a supply of 0.675 million m3, the source of 8.6 million m3 is unknown.
The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project started construction on January 1, 2023, with a length of more than 110km and a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion.
The project is divided into two component projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang component project has a length of more than 37km. The total investment is more than 10,370 billion VND; the Hau Giang - Ca Mau component project has a length of more than 73km. The total investment is more than 17,152 billion VND. Construction started in January 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
The Ring Road 3 construction project through Ho Chi Minh City has a total length of component project 1 of more than 47km. The total investment is more than 22,411 billion VND. The project officially started bidding packages from July 2023. It is expected to basically complete the expressway section in 2025 and complete the entire project in 2026.
