"I want to emphasize that Vietnam is the focus of our foreign policy. Vietnam is very important to India not only politically but also strategically," Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Madan Mohan Sethi told Thanh Nien at a press conference on the morning of May 30.
India is one of four countries with which Vietnam has established a comprehensive strategic partnership, the highest level of diplomatic relations at present. Last year, the two countries also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the official establishment of diplomatic relations.
Since 2014, India has been pursuing the "Act East" policy, an upgrade of the previous "Look East" policy, in an effort to strengthen economic and strategic ties with Southeast Asian countries and consolidate New Delhi's position in the region. New Delhi has also announced its vision for the Indo-Pacific, which emphasizes the central role of ASEAN.
Speaking at a press conference, Consul General Sethi recalled the meeting between Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the recent G7 summit in Hiroshima (Japan), affirming that this is a testament to the trust and friendship between the two countries.
Regarding the activities of the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Sethi said that the mission has organized 20 trade events in the past year. More than 600 large and small Indian companies and enterprises have visited Ho Chi Minh City as well as the provinces of Khanh Hoa, Binh Duong, and Dong Nai. In addition, for the first time, four Indian states including Kerala, Rajasthan, Odisha, and Tripura have visited Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces to explore possibilities and learn from cooperation experiences.
