On June 6, 2023, Nokia shared its new technology strategy and corporate strategy at the 'Amplify Vietnam' event held in Hanoi, demonstrating a stronger commitment to supporting Vietnam's digital transformation and economic development.
The highlight of the event was the product and solution demonstrations, where Nokia showcased some of its latest product and technology innovations, across its enterprise, mobile, cloud and network infrastructure solutions portfolio. Carefully selected from the products and solutions that the company exhibited at Mobile World Congress 2023 this year, these demonstrations showed that Nokia is ready to shape the future of Vietnamese industries and drive socio-economic growth, by supporting Vietnamese businesses in their journey to 5G and digital transformation.
Mr. Rubén M. Flores, General Director of Nokia Vietnam, said: "As the commercialization of 5G services approaches, Vietnam is on the threshold of a transformative era. We recognize the enormous potential of digitalization for the country and are therefore committed to supporting the Vietnamese ecosystem in seizing and accelerating this opportunity across all industries. With our new brand strategy, we are better positioned than ever to collaborate with our customers and partners to unlock the vast potential of their network infrastructure and create lasting impact.
At this event, Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuc, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Nokia Vietnam, said that Nokia has been present in Vietnam since 1993 with the first project being MobiFone's 2G network. Currently, Nokia has provided 5G equipment for VNPT, Viettel and MobiFone.
Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuc said that Vietnam has tested 5G quite early since 2020. Currently, 5G technology has been commercialized for 5 years and is being deployed in many countries around the world. Therefore, according to Nokia, Vietnam is also qualified to deploy a 5G network. Specifically, in the conditions for deploying 5G, the current rate of smartphone users is high at more than 80% and over 30% of smartphones already support 5G. Vietnam's only weakness is that the affordability of subscribers is relatively low, only about 3 USD/1 subscriber.
At the same time, according to Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuc, 5G will be strongly applied in fields such as: smart cities, ports, industrial factories, virtual reality...
Nokia representative also emphasized that building a 5G network as well as building a highway is a broadband infrastructure to promote digital transformation for people and society. However, to have this broadband, the Government must provide enough bandwidth for businesses.
“Network operators in Vietnam have begun to shut down 2G and 3G. Therefore, all network operators have a need for bandwidth to provide broadband services. However, they also consider factors when conducting auctions. To deploy a 5G network, 60 MHz or more is needed, up to 100 MHz. However, to ensure service quality, each network operator needs 80 MHz or more,” Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thuc shared.
Regarding Nokia's operations in Vietnam, Mr. Thuc said that Nokia has also produced fixed broadband equipment in Vietnam for export to the US and Australian markets. Nokia is leading the 4G equipment market share in Vietnam. In addition to the mobile segment, the company also aims to provide broadband solutions for businesses such as VNPT, FPT, and CMC.
