Why pregnant women need to be careful in the summer?

Hot summer brings many uncomfortable experiences for pregnant mothers, but if you understand clearly and prepare in advance, all difficulties will quickly pass.

Unexpected consequences of heat for pregnant women

When the ambient temperature increases, the body is more likely to lose water through sweating. Pregnant women are at higher risk of dehydration because the amount of blood in the body increases to nourish the fetus. Dehydration can lead to exhaustion, dizziness, fatigue and even fainting. Staying hydrated is very important throughout pregnancy.

The 315 Maternity Health System now has a flu vaccine for pregnant women: Influvac Tetra quadrivalent vaccine (children 6 months and older and adults).

Dehydration or heat stroke can increase the risk of premature birth or affect fetal development. Some studies have shown that excessive heat can increase the risk of premature birth, especially in pregnant women in their third trimester. High temperatures can stress the body, increasing cortisol levels (the stress hormone), which can affect fetal development and stimulate uterine contractions.

Pregnant women can have difficulty regulating their body temperature, especially on hot days. If a pregnant woman’s body temperature exceeds the safe level (above 39°C), it can cause adverse effects on the fetus, including the risk of birth defects or problems with brain development.

Not drinking enough water can cause dehydration, leading to dry skin, as well as reduce the quality of amniotic fluid. This can affect the protection and development of the fetus in the womb.

What should pregnant women do during hot summer days?
