According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, as of April 19, statistics on bookings by Vietnamese airlines on domestic routes during the April 30-May 1 holidays show that the "head-to-head" nature of air transport during peak periods and holidays has clearly formed.

Booking rates for flights departing from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are both high.
Specifically, flights from the two central cities at the two ends of the country, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to the localities have high booking rates at the beginning of the holiday. A similar situation will appear on flights from the localities to Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City at the end of the holiday.
Accordingly, on the first official holiday (April 27), the booking rate on flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities mostly reached over 75%.
Notably, some routes have a booking rate of over 90% to 100% such as: Hanoi - Hue, Hanoi - Quy Nhon, Hanoi - Quang Binh, Hanoi - Nha Trang, Hanoi - Tuy Hoa, Hanoi - Dien Bien, Ho Chi Minh City - Da Lat, Ho Chi Minh City - Tuy Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc, Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien...
On flights from localities to Hanoi/HCMC, the booking rate at the beginning of the holiday season is at an average level, fluctuating at 50%. There are some routes with higher rates such as Hai Phong - HCMC, Dien Bien - HCMC, Dien Bien - Hanoi, Da Lat - Hanoi...
April 26 and April 28, the day before and after the first holiday, although not as clear as April 27, the booking rate also showed a similar trend.
With the mid-holiday day of April 29, the booking rate has not shown any significant increase or fluctuation on domestic flights, currently fluctuating mostly at 30%-50%. Passengers still have many suitable flight options on this day.
At the end of the holiday, especially on the last day of the holiday (May 1), the booking rate showed a clear increase on local flights to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, averaging over 75%.
Some routes even have a booking rate of nearly 100% such as Hue - Hanoi, Phu Quoc - Hanoi, Dien Bien - Hanoi, Dong Hoi - Hanoi, Nha Trang - Hanoi, Pleiku - Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc - Ho Chi Minh City, Tuy Hoa - Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City, Quy Nhon - Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City...
During this period, flights from Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to the local area have "cooled down" compared to before and the booking rate is at a moderate level, averaging below 50%.
Notably, statistics show that the booking rate on domestic flights connecting to Dien Bien as the time approaches the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024) is always high.
The Hanoi - Dien Bien and Ho Chi Minh City - Dien Bien routes are both in the group of routes with high booking rates, throughout the entire April 30 - May 1 holiday, and are expected to continue to do so in the following days.
Currently, among Vietnamese airlines, Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are operating flights connecting Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City with Dien Bien, serving people and tourists with more travel options to learn about history, visit and travel to Dien Bien during this important national holiday, as well as responding to Vietnam's National Tourism Year 2024.
