With the increasingly busy and hectic pace of life today, traditional Tet holidays are still an opportunity for people to leisurely gather together and preserve the cultural beauty of Tet.

Many people think that digital technology can replace moments of reunion, but in reality, the warm taste of Tet is something that no technology or development can fade in every Vietnamese person.

Lunar New Year is the biggest and oldest traditional New Year, the first festival of the year, opening a new year with many beliefs and hopes. For generations, for every Vietnamese person, Tet has become an expected and indispensable festival of the nation. That is why, no matter where they go, Vietnamese people still remember their roots, remember the beloved Tet holiday in their homeland.

For over a month now, Le Viet Phuong and his four brothers have created a Zalo group to discuss returning home to celebrate Tet and celebrate their mother's birthday. His parents have five sons, but none of them stay in their hometown and all work far away. Every year, sometimes two or three times, sometimes once, everyone takes turns visiting their parents. But it is rare to have the opportunity to return all at once. This year, his mother turns 70, an important occasion to show gratitude, and also for those who live far away to return home to reunite. After discussing, the brothers agreed to return on the same day and at the same time to give their mother a surprise.

Mr. Phuong shared: “Thanks to digital technology, we formed a group to discuss everything, and even discussed buying a birthday gift for my mother. Now the choices are very diverse, anyone with a good idea can send it to the group with pictures and prices, so we can reach an agreement very quickly. My sisters-in-law and children also “voted” in high agreement.”

Therefore, when returning home, whoever returned first would find a coffee shop or a tea shop to wait for those who returned later. By 5 pm on the 29th of Tet, everyone had gathered and "snaked" into the house. Mr. Phuong also confessed that among the families and children of his brothers, many still thought that now was the age of technology and information, so it was not necessary to gather to celebrate the traditional Tet. However, when they arrived at the door, seeing their parents wrapping banh chung, the smell of sticky rice, green beans, and the scent of Tet wafting in the air made everyone touched.

“There are children who live in the city and study abroad and when they return home, they are surprised and amazed when they see this cozy scene. They love Tet in the countryside even more, especially when they get to wrap banh chung with their grandparents and wait for the cakes to be boiled,” said Mr. Phuong.

He himself was moved by the image of his old mother sitting and wrapping banh chung waiting for her children to come home. Mr. Phuong recalled that, from the past until now, whether they were well-off or poor, every time Tet came, his kitchen would light up a corner of the garden. One year, fearing that his mother would have a hard time, the family suggested not wrapping any more and instead buying ready-made banh chung. Indeed, that year, everyone had a much more leisurely time, but everyone felt sad. Tet came and went, too quiet and bland. Therefore, from the following year, without any argument, every year they wrapped banh chung, regardless of whether their children were home in time to help wrap the banh chung or one of them came first or the other later.

Tet changes, but its value remains unchanged. It cannot be denied that the Vietnamese people's Tet celebration style gradually changes each year, which is an inevitable objective law. It can be seen that modern life has made Tet have a very different color from the Tet of the past. Now the concept of "eating Tet" has been gradually replaced by the phrase "taking Tet holiday, playing Tet".

In particular, digital technology has contributed to changing people's lives in many aspects, becoming a useful tool to help people prepare carefully for Tet as well as solving the problem of distance in space and geography, enhancing social exchange and communication.

It can be seen that while traditional beauty is still preserved and not lost, Tet is now more convenient when technology becomes an important part of daily life. Modern Tet - Tet in the digital age and traditional Tet are increasingly intertwined and blended to bring new flavors in the hustle and bustle of modern life.

Despite many changes, Tet Nguyen Dan is still the biggest, most jubilant and bustling traditional holiday of the Vietnamese people. Tet is still an occasion for everyone to strive for good and fulfilling values, such as eating well, dressing well, speaking well and being right, wishing each other “all the best”, “prosperity and wealth”… In particular, Tet is an important occasion to turn to one’s roots, family reunion, and welcome a new year of peace and happiness.

It is undeniable that digital technology makes family members “closer”, easier to contact, ask about and make plans, but when Tet comes, everyone understands that technology cannot replace the family reunion atmosphere. Although the taste of Tet in the past and present has changed somewhat, the traditional cultural values remain unchanged in each person. Tet is an occasion for family reunion, gathering, whoever goes far or near must remember to come back! And when they return, they can feel the traditional taste of Tet through the “scent of Tet”.
