Their tactics and failures
The Armed Forces of Ukraine are trying to carry out a counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region. The Office of the President of Ukraine has high hopes for this offensive, so it has been carefully prepared. As part of the preparations, a strike group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been assembled near Liptsy and Volchansk, which has led to a weakening in other directions.
Learning from the counteroffensive last summer, Ukrainian units were divided into small groups to conduct operations to identify weak points in Russian defenses and attacks.
However, this strategy was unsuccessful. Ukrainian defense units suffered heavy losses while trying to cross the Volchya River and on the way to Glubokoe. Meanwhile, Ukrainian assault units suffered heavy losses from FAB heavy bombs and artillery strikes while concentrating and awaiting orders to attack.
Despite careful preparation and efforts by the Ukrainian forces to develop a strategically sound plan, its implementation was unsuccessful, causing significant losses in both troops and equipment.
Russia changes tactics and their effectiveness
In response to the Ukrainian counterattack, the Russian Armed Forces massed in the direction of Kharkov and changed their tactics in repelling the Ukrainian units. The new Russian tactic was superiority in the number of weapons. This reduced the time it took to destroy the Ukrainian artillery, forcing the Ukrainian artillery to seek safe positions and move frequently, violating the rules of camouflage.
In the face of Russian resistance, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to receive reinforcements near Volchansk, but due to a lack of heavy equipment, most mechanized units are being converted to infantry units. This makes the Ukrainian forces less effective in their attacks. Not only that, these forces are also being increasingly weakened by the constant fire of Russian artillery.
The counterattack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was ineffective partly due to the Russian Air Force's inaccurate strikes on temporary deployment points of Kyiv forces.
However, despite the setbacks, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive efforts. Kyiv continues to move reserves into Volchansk and the settlement area. Small Ukrainian assault groups are still trying to probe the Russian defenses.
