The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the greenback's movements against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), recorded 103.90 points.

Forex markets entered Thursday amid a positive reaction from the US market, with the US Federal Reserve suggesting that interest rates will be cut by 75 basis points this year.

The path of US monetary policy through 2024 is the biggest direct driver for Asian markets. New Zealand’s 4Q23 GDP data, Australian unemployment figures, Japan’s trade figures and a slew of PMI reports will follow.

All eyes will be on the yen once again, as the Japanese currency continues to slide after a historic interest rate hike and policy shift by the Bank of Japan this week.

The Yen is currently weak against other currencies. The JPY/EUR exchange rate is at a 16-year high. The JPY/USD exchange rate is near its highest level since 1990.

The yen tried to recoup some losses in late U.S. trading on Wednesday as the dollar fell. Thursday promises to be an eventful session after the Fed and BOJ hinted at policy.

The US Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates in June with a 75 basis point easing in 2024. The Bank of Japan is expected to raise rates by another 10 basis points in September, plus again in December.
