During the FIFA Days taking place at the end of March, the Vietnamese team did not have any friendly matches. Thus, the confrontation with Hong Kong, China in June will be the first match coach Philippe Troussier leads the Vietnamese national team.

In fact, this is not a match that is expected much in terms of expertise, because Hong Kong, China is ranked 147th in the world, far behind the Vietnamese team (96th in the world). In the two most recent encounters in 2014 and 2016, the Vietnamese team won both times.

Although not facing quality opponents, this is a preparation step for the Vietnamese team towards the 2026 World Cup qualifiers (playing two matches in November) and the 2023 Asian Cup (taking place early next year, facing opponents Japan, Iraq and Indonesia).

Coach Philippe Troussier will likely rejuvenate the Vietnamese national team. Therefore, it is not surprising that the French strategist has given many U20 and U22 Vietnamese players, such as Van Truong, Van Khang, Van Tung, etc., the chance to join the national team.

After the friendly match with Hong Kong, China coach Philippe Troussier and U22 Vietnam went to China to participate in the Panda Cup. This is a tournament worth waiting for because U22 Vietnam will meet strong opponents, including the host team.

After winning only a bronze medal at the 32nd SEA Games, fans hope that coach Philippe Troussier will lead the Vietnamese national team to success in the upcoming tournaments. This is also a great pressure for the French coach.

To prepare for the friendly match with Hong Kong, China, the Vietnamese team is expected to gather again on June 7, after finishing round 11 of V-League 2023.

During the V-League matches, coach Philippe Troussier and his colleagues will split up to go to the stadiums to monitor the performance of the players as well as look for new players to call up to the team's training list.

Currently, the Vietnam Football Federation has begun to carry out the necessary work to organize the match as well as develop a plan to issue tickets to serve fans. The match venue will be announced later.

According to the 2023 schedule, in addition to international friendly matches during FIFA Days in June, September and October, the Vietnamese team will play two matches in the 2026 World Cup and 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, on November 13 and November 21, respectively. The Vietnamese team's opponents will be determined after the draw results are announced next July.
