After a bushfire swept through his home, a man was stunned to find a special "guest" hiding underneath his house.
A Los Angeles man made a shocking discovery when he returned home after the devastating Eaton Fire ravaged his family's community. Samy Arbid, 41, discovered that a giant bear weighing about 500 pounds had moved into the space underneath his home. The "unexpected visitor" was found when he installed a security camera underneath his Altadena home after the Eaton Fire.

The bear sought shelter under Mr Arbid's house.
To his surprise, Arbid was face to face with one of the largest bears wildlife officials had ever encountered. “We finally set up a security camera with a light in the basement and found this huge bear down there,” Arbid told CBS News. “I was pretty nervous. I think the bear was hiding in there when the fire started. It must have been scared.”

The bear was too large to be safely anesthetized.
The situation was further complicated when Southern California Gas crews refused to restore gas service to individual homes after the bear was discovered. Wildlife officials had to come up with a way to get the oversized bear out, as it was too large to safely tranquilize. Their solution was to offer the bear a tasty meal to entice it to climb out of hiding.
“So they went to Stater Brothers supermarket and bought some roast chicken, sardines and tomato sauce, apples, peanut butter – all sorts of things. They made a feast out of it,” Arbid explains.
The plan worked as the bear couldn’t resist the delicious treat. After enjoying the meal, the trapped bear was safely relocated.

The giant bear was finally relocated safely.
Wildlife officials fitted the bear with a GPS collar before releasing it back into the Angeles National Forest. “A biologist said it was the biggest bear he had ever seen,” Arbid said.
But it turns out the giant animal was already well-known to the local community, who even named it “Berry” and “Victor.” The bear is believed to have fled its familiar habitat in nearby Eaton Gorge when the bushfires broke out.
Residents expressed their deep affection for the gentle animal and felt lucky that the bear had made it through the fire safely. "It was pretty harmless. It just needed some food from the trash," said Patty Smith, a man.
