The number of children suffering from acute malnutrition increased by 34% year-on-year in government-controlled areas, affecting more than 600,000 children, according to the report, which cited data from the United Nations' Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) system in Yemen.
The report also identified that some 223,000 pregnant and lactating women suffered from acute malnutrition this year, driven by a combination of factors including protracted conflict, disease outbreaks, widespread food insecurity, limited access to clean water and economic downturn.
