Donating 250,000 trees to Yen Bai and Lao Cai provinces, continuing "Action for a green Vietnam"

Continuing the series of activities in the program "Action for a Green Vietnam" in 2023, on September 21, the Center for Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment coordinated with Unilever and OMO brands to donate 250,000 trees to Nghia An commune, Nghia Lo town, Yen Bai province and Lao Cai province.

According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Vietnam is one of the countries seriously affected by natural disasters such as floods, landslides, droughts, saltwater intrusion, etc. In particular, when forests lose their green color, climate change, greenhouse effect, rising sea levels, flash floods, landslides, etc. occur more frequently and more severely.

Launched in 2021, the tree planting program "Action for a Green Vietnam" was initiated by Unilever Vietnam - OMO brand through cooperation with the Center for Natural Resources & Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment, committed to completing the goal of planting 1 million trees in the period of 2021-2025 focusing on protective forests, national forests, schools, and urban areas.

In 2021, the program donated 150,000 cinnamon trees to Cam Lo district, Quang Tri province; planted 4,000 trees and donated 20,000 seed balls at Nui Chua National Park, Ninh Thuan province; planted native seedlings at Vu Quang National Park, Ha Tinh province and Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue province.

In 2022, the program donated 70,000 trees to A Luoi district, Thua Thien - Hue province, 1,000 endemic seedlings to Bach Ma National Park (Thua Thien Hue) and 1,000 trees at Cuc Phuong National Park (Ninh Binh). By the end of 2022, the program had planted more than 440,000 trees, sown 60,000 seed balls in 19 provinces and cities and 9 national parks nationwide, contributing to the goal of 1 million trees by 2025.

The tree donation program in Yen Bai province is the next activity in 2023 on the journey of cooperation between the parties over the past years. At the program, Unilever Vietnam donated 250,000 trees to representatives of Nghia Lo town, Yen Bai province and Lao Cai province, expressing the desire for socio-economic development for the people here, towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

Speaking at the tree planting ceremony, Mr. Vu Duc Trung, Member of the Party Executive Committee of the Town, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nghia Lo Town, Yen Bai Province, said that the tree planting program "Action for a green Vietnam" has donated nearly 200,000 seedlings to plant forests in 5 communes with the largest forest areas of the town.

"I believe that the cadres and people of the communes receiving trees will actively plant, care for, and protect the seedlings received from this Program to contribute to improving the environment and improving the quality of life of each of our people," Mr. Trung expressed.

Mr. Vu Minh Ly - Deputy Director of the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Communication affirmed: "Every year we are witnessing serious impacts caused by natural disasters and extreme weather phenomena with extremely serious consequences, more than anyone else we are more imbued with the meaning of planting trees, greening barren hills and mountains, and restoring ecosystems in all regions of the country.

Planting trees 'For a green Vietnam' for today's and future generations is also to correct and overcome mistakes in dealing with nature over the past time, making Vietnam an exemplary model, an attractive destination for life in harmony with nature on the world map".
