Việt NamViệt Nam09/04/2025

Ca Mau Newspaper In recent times, Ngoc Hien district has promptly implemented many creative solutions and approaches, helping people gradually escape poverty and stabilize their lives. Thanks to that, the local poverty reduction work has achieved impressive figures. From 2024 to now, the whole district has reduced 548 poor and near-poor households; the poverty rate is now only 0.92%, down 2.07% compared to the beginning of the 2015-2020 term.

Talking about the local achievement of reducing 103 poor and near-poor households in the past year, Ms. Tiet My Khanh, Vice Chairman of Rach Goc Town People's Committee, was quite satisfied. According to Ms. Khanh, if poverty reduction work is to achieve high results, the most important thing is to create awareness among people to rise up on their own. If they keep waiting and relying on support from authorities at all levels, it will be difficult to improve. On the other hand, it is necessary to clearly understand the specific circumstances, the reasons why people are poor and what support they need in order to have the right and accurate solutions.

Understanding the family situation of Mr. Huynh Hung Cuong, Rach Goc B hamlet, Rach Goc town, with difficulties due to lack of land for production, no stable job, unstable income... the locality created conditions for the family to participate in a training course on livestock farming techniques, and at the same time supported 4 breeding minks to raise. Thanks to the basic knowledge from the training, and his own diligence in researching and learning, Mr. Cuong has taken good care of the mink herd. He also combined digging a pond to raise catfish to create food and treat waste from raising mink, helping to save costs and create a source of income. After nearly 2 years of raising the herd, the number of minks has grown to 25.

Nguyen Kim Oanh's family is considered one of the households that have difficulty escaping poverty in Rach Goc B hamlet, because her husband died early, when her two children were still young, and she herself has no job. To support Oanh to escape poverty, the locality has helped her access preferential capital sources, and at the same time guided her to implement a combined model to develop the economy.

Ms. Oanh confided: “With a preferential loan of nearly 30 million VND and the support and encouragement of the locality, I boldly invested in pig farming. Thanks to effective business, I have a stable income, voluntarily applied to escape poverty, and my children can go to school. I am very happy.”

Mr. Nguyen Nam Cuong, Nhung Mien Hamlet, Vien An Dong Commune, said: “In the past, when my family was in difficult circumstances, the local authorities came to mobilize, guide and facilitate the process of making documents and procedures for a loan for my son to go to Japan to work. Since my son went abroad to work, he has sent money back home regularly every month, helping the family have capital to invest in the crab breeding business. For more than 2 years now, the crab breeding business has helped the family's economy improve with a stable income of more than 40 million VND per month.”

The crab breeding profession helps Mr. Nguyen Nam Cuong's family earn more than 40 million VND/month.

Mr. Tran Hoang Lac, Chairman of the District People's Committee, informed that currently, the average income per capita of the district has reached 64.4 million VND, 15.5 million VND higher than at the beginning of the term. This is a positive signal, marking a positive development in the local poverty reduction work. It is believed that with these efforts, Ngoc Hien district will continue to have higher achievements, contributing to the completion of the process of building a new rural district./.
