Controversy over Duong Hoang Yen wearing H'Mong clothes but filming MV in a stilt house

The fact that Duong Hoang Yen wore H'Mong costumes but filmed the MV "Weighing the World" in a stilt house is causing controversy. The crew explained that the product is aimed at entertainment.

Recently, Duong Hoang Yen released the MV "Weighing the World" in collaboration with DTAP. The MV was invested in by the female singer's crew in terms of visuals with the setting from the Northwest to Ho Chi Minh City. Duong Hoang Yen transformed into a girl from the Northern mountainous region who came to the city to demand justice for her husband - who was previously oppressed by the factory owner.

However, the product caused controversy because Duong Hoang Yen's character wore H'Mong costumes but filmed the MV in a stilt house. Meanwhile, a typical H'Mong house has a dirt floor, a gate and a roof covered with stone tiles.

The crew explained that Duong Hoang Yen's MV is not aimed at a specific ethnicity.

Discussing the above controversy, director Le Ha Nguyen shared: “Watching Weighing the World , the audience will find it very entertaining. The world that the crew intentionally created is not real, which is shown through the images: the Earth is heart-shaped, the wife has superpowers… The fun and cuteness of the MV content is to match the song’s melody and musical space. Therefore, the story does not intentionally exploit a specific ethnic group.”

The director added that from the beginning of the project, Duong Hoang Yen shared that she really wanted to transform into the role of a girl from the Northwest mountains. Therefore, the crew chose images close to this region to exploit in the first stage of the MV. This could cause misunderstandings leading to mixed responses.

Duong Hoang Yen's representative also added that the purpose of making the MV was for the audience to enjoy fun, cute entertainment images... However, the crew also learned from experience and explained clearly to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future.

Duong Hoang Yen (born in 1991), graduated from Hanoi College of Arts. She started her career at the age of 17 with the Sao Mai Diem Hen contest in 2008. In 2013, she continued to participate in The Voice of Vietnam. Duong Hoang Yen had many years of career activities but did not make a breakthrough. She received more attention after participating in Sao Nhap Ngu and had products with high views such as Khong Phai Em Dung Khong Khong?, Em Mot Minh Quen Roi .
