In the 2025 winter-spring crop, Tram Tau district will plant 1,572 hectares of rice, mainly Nhi Uu 838, Viet Lai 20, DS1, Dai Thom, Thien Uu 8... and some local glutinous rice varieties, striving for an average yield of 51.6 quintals/ha. At this time, rice is entering the tillering stage. In order for the entire rice area to grow and develop well to achieve the set yield and output, Tram Tau district directs specialized departments and offices to actively urge localities to do a good job of caring for and preventing rice pests and diseases.
These days, in all the fields from the lowlands to the highlands of the district, people are actively taking care of spring rice. In the field of Ta Tau village, Pa Hu commune, Mr. Mua Thao Pao is fertilizing and draining water into the field and said: "My family has 500m2 of rice fields, this spring crop focuses on planting hybrid rice Nhi Uu 838 and pure rice DS1. The rice was planted after Tet, the weather was favorable so it grew well, and is currently entering the stage of intensive tillering, so I regularly visit the fields, regulate water properly and add fertilizer, and at the same time pay attention to preventing pests and diseases that harm the rice."
In the field of Luu 2 village, Hat Luu commune, Lo Thi Mac's family is weeding, catching golden apple snails and covering the field with nylon to prevent rats from biting and destroying it. With nearly 1,000 m2 of field, this winter-spring crop, Mac's family focuses on intensive cultivation of hybrid rice varieties such as DS1 and Dai Thom for commercial purposes.
Ms. Mac shared: "This year's weather is erratic, the rice is entering the tillering stage, lack of rain so growth is slow, some of my family's rice fields are near residential areas so there is a situation of rats biting and destroying. To ensure the entire rice field grows well, in addition to focusing on preventing pests and rats, I add nitrogen fertilizer to promote rapid rice growth."
In the winter-spring crop of 2025, Hat Luu commune planted 225 hectares of rice on two-crop fields, mainly pure rice varieties such as Thien Uu 8 and partly hybrid rice varieties Nhi Uu 838 and Dai Thom. At this time, the rice is entering the stage of intensive tillering. To ensure good growth and development of the rice area, the commune directed professional staff to coordinate with village and hamlet chiefs to encourage farmers to actively visit the fields, regulate irrigation water reasonably, and focus on preventing pests and diseases, and rodents.
Mr. Lo Van Tiep - Chairman of Hat Luu Commune People's Committee said: "With the goal of striving for a rice yield of over 52 quintals/ha, based on the official dispatch of the District Department of Agriculture and Environment on strengthening the investigation and monitoring of pests on winter-spring rice crops in 2024 - 2025, the Commune People's Committee has issued a notice requesting the village chief to coordinate with the commune's agricultural and forestry officials to focus on directing and guiding people to care for and prevent rice pests and diseases; focusing on regulating irrigation water reasonably, not allowing any area to suffer from drought or water shortage. In areas that are slow to develop, the commune directs farmers to focus on fertilizing with nitrogen and organic fertilizers so that the rice can grow and develop well, ensuring productivity according to plan".
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tram Tau district, in the 2025 winter-spring crop, the entire rice area was planted within the time frame after Tet, and at this time, the rice is entering the stage of intensive tillering. However, the weather has been quite unusual in recent times, significantly affecting the growth and development of rice.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tram Tau district said: "The unit has issued Official Dispatch No. 48 dated March 31, 2025 on strengthening the investigation and monitoring of pests on winter-spring rice crops 2024 - 2025 to direct professional staff, the District Agricultural Development Service and Support Center to closely coordinate with communes, towns, units, departments and functional offices to dredge canals, reserve water to ensure enough irrigation water, and mobilize people to focus on preventing and controlling harmful pests such as leaf rollers, brown planthoppers, stem borers, golden apple snails and rats to ensure that the entire spring rice area in the area grows and develops smoothly, ensuring the set goals, productivity and output".
Up to this point, the entire spring rice area of Tram Tau district is growing and developing well. However, according to forecasts, in the coming time, erratic weather conditions and cold weather will continue, creating favorable conditions for some pests and diseases to arise and cause severe damage and have the ability to spread widely. Therefore, specialized agencies in the district's agricultural sector continue to focus on directing farmers to actively visit the fields, assess the level of pests and diseases to take timely preventive measures, avoid subjectivity, ensure good rice growth and development, and bring high economic efficiency.
