With dynamism, creativity, daring to think, daring to do, Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - Director of Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative, in Bac Moi village, Cuong Gian commune, Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh) has raised the level of the "specialty" shrimp with a brand that meets 4-star OCOP standards, opening up opportunities to access an increasingly large market.
Changing the traditional way of thinking and doing things
Cuong Gian Commune, Nghi Xuan District (Ha Tinh Province), has a traditional fishing profession from the ancestors, and the dried shrimp drying profession has also been around for decades. Therefore, dried shrimp has become a familiar product in the lives of the people of Cuong Gian Commune. From a production and business household, sticking with the profession for nearly 30 years, Ms. Pham Thi Hoa realized the potential of large raw materials, but production still stopped at traditional methods, relying on generational experience, rudimentary tools, and the products created still had many limitations.

Therefore, Ms. Pham Thi Hoa boldly stepped out of the old rut, pioneered in changing the production method with the desire to bring to the market the highest quality products. In 2020, Ms. Pham Thi Hoa established Hoa Linh Chi Seafood Production and Processing Cooperative with 5 members and invested nearly 300 million VND to purchase machinery for production and processing to improve product quality. Actively producing, operating, improving product quality and building OCOP products, the 2 main product lines are dried shrimp and anchovies (small anchovies) of the Cooperative meeting 3-star OCOP standards.

To have a basis to improve the product, in October 2021, Ms. Pham Thi Hoa continued to upgrade the facility to a cooperative with 11 members. Ms. Pham Thi Hoa and the members have worked hard to take care of their "brainchild" to upgrade the 4-star OCOP product by researching and improving the production process to gradually reduce manual steps, "beautifying" the product from the inside out. Each product created is not only delicious, but also has beautiful packaging, easy to transport and can be preserved for a long time. With those efforts, in October 2024, Hoa Linh Chi dried shrimp products were recognized by the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province as meeting 4-star OCOP standards.

Ms. Pham Thi Hoa - Director of Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative, shared: "For dried shrimp, anyone can make it, but to be favored and sought after by many people, each facility has its own way of making it, building its own brand. To have a dried shrimp product with its own characteristics, the production and processing process at the Cooperative combines modern technology and valuable experience accumulated over many years. Currently, we are constantly improving each stage to create a comprehensive product in terms of quality and design".
OCOP standard products, "ticket" to expand consumer market
According to Ms. Pham Thi Hoa, the process of producing shrimp is not too complicated but has many steps and requires carefulness. To have a fragrant, delicious, and high-quality product, the prerequisite is that the shrimp must be very fresh. Every time a boat arrives at the shore, you must be there early to choose fresh, live shrimp.

After buying raw iron shrimp and bringing them to the factory, workers pre-process, wash, and boil them at 100 0 C for about 5-7 minutes. The shrimp are peeled, headless, washed, and put into the dryer for 5 hours, and packaged into finished products with different weights. "On average, 10kg of fresh iron shrimp can be processed into 1kg of dried shrimp. The processing follows a closed process, using a modern drying system, helping to better control the drying process, not only ensuring quality, the shrimp has an eye-catching bright red color, is chewy, sweet, delicious, and retains the original flavor of the product, so customers love it very much. With an average selling price of 1 million VND/kg, dried shrimp is becoming the main product, the best seller of Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative", Ms. Hoa revealed.
Every year, Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative sells nearly 2 tons of finished shrimp, bringing in a profit of 550-600 million VND. Photo: PV
Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative not only brings a large source of income to the facility but also creates regular jobs for 11 local workers with an average income of 4 - 5 million VND/person/month and dozens of seasonal workers. Since Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative has purchased products, fishermen have felt more secure staying at sea, products after catching are purchased and there is no need to worry about output. Mr. Nguyen Van Minh (a fisherman in Bac Moi village, Cuong Gian commune) said: "Previously, the most difficult part of our fishing was still selling products, often bringing them to the market or selling them in other districts or provinces, being injured and having low prices, unstable income, long distance transportation, and damaged products. Since Hoa Linh Chi Cooperative has been established, whatever we catch is purchased by the facility, prices are stable, so we feel more secure going to sea."
