On the morning of September 18, at Tran Huu Trang Opera House, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association organized a seminar on the current situation and solutions for developing traditional opera theater in Ho Chi Minh City.
The seminar was attended by experts, theater critics and many artists, authors, directors, musicians, stage designers, public and socialized art units, and artists working in Ho Chi Minh City.
At the seminar, 8 presentations with 14 opinions clearly reflected the thoughts and aspirations of artists who raised the issue of the current situation, specifically presenting the shortcomings of historical reformed theater and classical theater, such as: lack of fully functional theaters; lack of new, interesting scripts; some theaters follow the audience's tastes, so they do not focus on performing plays with content imbued with Vietnamese cultural identity; in-depth training for authors, musicians and classical theater musicians is lax...
Artists and experts also proposed many solutions to make positive changes to the art of reformed classical opera, meeting the increasingly high enjoyment demands of the people.
At the seminar, People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, informed that in 2025, the city will focus on investing in literary and artistic works on the subject of Vietnamese history, including traditional opera. This will be a driving force and encourage the creativity of public and non-public units to have many new plays with high artistic value.
