The special court found Mr Khan guilty of publishing the contents of a secret cable sent by Pakistan’s ambassador to the US to the Pakistani government, his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said. Former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was also sentenced to 10 years in a similar case.

This is the second prison sentence for Mr Khan in recent months. PTI said it would challenge the decision. “We do not accept this illegal decision,” Mr Khan’s lawyer Naeem Panjutha told X.
Former Prime Minister Khan was previously sentenced to three years in a corruption case, which disqualified him from running in next week's election. He has also faced dozens of cases since he was ousted from office in a no-confidence vote in Pakistan's parliament in 2022.
In May last year, the first time Khan was arrested, his supporters were accused of rioting and storming military facilities, including the home of a senior general.
Recently, Mr Khan has urged his supporters to ensure that they turn out in large numbers to vote for his supported candidates in the upcoming elections.
