The exhibition displays over 50 artworks by 6 contemporary Vietnamese graphic artists: Nguyen Nghia Phuong, Phan Hai Bang, Vu Dinh Tuan, Pham Khac Quang, Vu Bach Lien, and Nguyen Khac Han.

These are famous artists, representing the appearance of contemporary Vietnamese graphics in recent years.

The exhibition "Graphic Art - From Folk to Contemporary" displays many collections of woodcuts whose shapes and carvings are either delicate, ethereal, or strict, academic, or pushed to the extreme of meticulousness and detail.

The works displayed at this exhibition are all rich in personal identity, carrying a contemporary breath in both content and language. The lives, perspectives, stories, and ideas of the authors have brought new emotions to the art-enjoying public.

If artist Nguyen Nghia Phuong creates a distinction with the depth of folk aesthetics and the breath of Kinh Bac cultural layers, artist Phan Hai Bang impresses with works that combine complex associations about fertility and the struggle of private emotions in the world of patience and enlightenment.

Painter Vu Dinh Tuan captivates viewers with a mysterious, magical oriental painting, abrupt in color, surprising in form, concise yet rich in association.

Painter Pham Khac Quang demonstrates flexibility in the use of visual effects that captivate viewers and make them feel captivated and fascinated by the meticulousness and elaboration.

Artist Vu Bach Lien introduces works that are attractive because of their detailed, meticulous and emotional structure, special creativity, elaborateness, richness of color, multi-material, and large scale.

Artist Nguyen Khac Han, with meticulousness, sophistication, and condensation through black and white tones, brings a strong and profound visual impression, expressing interest in the aspects and distances of Eastern-Western, modern-traditional culture, through the development of the young generation in the family and living space in society.

Graphic art has a long history, developing and changing over many centuries. In Vietnam, graphic art appeared thousands of years ago, starting with woodblocks and Buddhist scriptures, to folk prints from the 16th to 19th centuries such as Dong Ho, Hang Trong, Kim Hoang, Lang Sinh, Do The Nam Bo paintings...

Nowadays, although they have been lost, those folk paintings imbued with the national spirit still retain the artistic and spiritual values that the ancient artisans left for posterity.

Continuing the folk tradition, the generation of painters of the Indochina period, followed by authors who matured during the two resistance wars, have marked the history of Vietnamese fine arts with their names and excellent graphic works, mostly prints, and mainly woodcuts.

Painters of the Indochina period include Nguyen Sang, To Ngoc Van, Tran Van Can, Ta Ty, Nguyen Tien Chung, Nguyen Van Ty, Pham Van Don, Nguyen Thu, Tran Dinh Tho, Hoang Tram...

The next generation with many contributions to graphic art can be mentioned as authors such as Vu Duy Nghia, Tran Nguyen Dan, Phung Pham, Le Huy Tiep, Nguyen Nghia Duyen, Le Mai Khanh, Tran Tuyet Mai, Nguyen Duc Hoa, Tran Nguyen Hieu... have created the underground stream of graphic art that continues from ancient history to modern times.

The exhibition is organized by Hanoi Studio Gallery in collaboration with Anh Duong Art Space, open until September 29, 2023./.
