At the meeting, leaders of Quang Nam province informed that the locality has 157 km of border adjacent to Se Kong province, Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Along the entire land border passing through Quang Nam province, there are 60 border markers and 7 markers located in 14 border communes in the two mountainous districts of Nam Giang and Tay Giang, Quang Nam province and 16 border villages and clusters in the two districts of Dac Chung and Ka Lum, Se Koong province, Laos.
Quang Nam province holds an important position in the East-West economic corridor, being the shortest point connecting the Central Key Economic Zone with the Southern Laos region through the Nam Giang international border gate. Quang Nam province has a traditional friendly and cooperative relationship with the Southern Lao provinces.
Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee, said that over 27 years since the province was re-established, Quang Nam has gone from being a purely agricultural province with a budget revenue of only 100 billion VND in 1997 to over 30 trillion VND in 2022.
In that great achievement, there is the companionship and important contribution of THACO when continuously over the past many years contributing over 70% of the industrial production value and budget revenue of the whole province. Currently, the enterprise is focusing on investing in the Southern Laos region with many large projects.
The Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee hopes that THACO will receive the attention, support, and most favorable conditions from the Party, National Assembly, Government, and localities in Southern Laos so that the enterprise can invest effectively and increasingly develop and grow in Laos.
He also believes that the enterprise will accompany and make important contributions to the development of the Southern Laos localities in particular and Laos in general as it has been accompanying Quang Nam, contributing to consolidating and tightening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
At the meeting, THACO leaders said that the group is investing in an agricultural complex specializing in fruit tree cultivation, combined with large-scale livestock farming on a total area of over 27,000 hectares in Attapeu and Sekong provinces, Laos.
THACO has also implemented the Nong Khang Airport Project in Xamneua District, Houaphan Province with a total value of 82 million USD. This airport is currently operating with a frequency of 22 flights/week. Nong Khang Airport is located in the economic gateway area of Laos and Vietnam, contributing to promoting import and export development across the border of the two countries. The Group is developing a logistics network to transport goods from Southern Laos, northeastern Thailand to Vietnam.
THACO representative proposed that the National Assembly of Vietnam and Laos pay attention to and invest in the transportation system to facilitate the trade of goods along the East-West economic corridor, especially investing in upgrading National Highway 14D through Quang Nam province.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice President of the Lao National Assembly Sommad Pholsena acknowledged and highly appreciated THACO's investment strategy in Laos.
The Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly said he would recommend to the National Assembly, the Government, ministries, branches and localities in Southern Laos to create the best conditions for THACO to implement projects and effectively produce and do business in Laos.
“Some of THACO’s projects in Laos are in the process of land lease procedures. The Lao National Assembly will create the best conditions and I think the Lao Government and relevant ministries and branches will also create the best conditions for these projects to be implemented soon. Laos will work with Vietnam to promote trade and logistics activities between Quang Nam province and the southern provinces of Laos, contributing to promoting the good friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” said Mr. Sommad Pholsena.
Early this afternoon, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Sommad Pholsena and the working delegation of the two countries' National Assemblies visited the Lower Laos Resistance Zone in Phu Ninh District, Quang Nam Province. This red address is an important milestone in the struggle for independence of the army and people of Vietnam and Laos; affirming the traditional friendship and special solidarity between the two Parties and States of Vietnam and Laos.
Next, the delegation offered incense at the martyrs' cemetery in Quang Nam province and the Monument to Heroic Vietnamese Mothers in Tam Ky city, Quang Nam province.
