(CLO) Faced with the challenge of information explosion, many press agencies have been promoting multimedia content strategy, especially creative journalism with the application of advanced technology. With their constant efforts to pioneer innovation, they create press works that are creative, attractive, and user-friendly.

Promoting new journalistic opportunities

Applying digital technology and innovation in journalism activities is a mandatory requirement for many press agencies in the digital age. In fact, in the country, many press agencies have focused on producing modern, multimedia press works, applying many different new technologies. Many creative works go beyond the element of pure journalism genre.

In recent years, with the investment of a number of major press agencies, the effectiveness of investing in and focusing on developing these creative press products can be clearly seen. These creative and unique press works have not only made their mark domestically but also achieved success in the international press.

The project "Each person, a piece of the puzzle" is the highlight of the entire information and propaganda ecosystem for the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital of Nhan Dan Newspaper.

For example, at the Voice of Vietnam, in recent years the unit has continuously won awards for radio works from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). These works all have in common the creative color, beyond the scope of a mere radio work.

We often talk about creativity in print and television, but in fact, radio also has very good creativity. There, audio products are brought to digital platforms, with very impressive and elaborate presentations. Combining sound, vivid images, language, writing... thereby seeing a new way of thinking about content, impressive and different creative expressions.

At Nhan Dan Newspaper, one of the leading newspapers in Vietnam in terms of innovation and technology application today. With the motto "Where there are People, there is Nhan Dan Newspaper", Nhan Dan Newspaper's publications are posted on all digital platforms, the interface and storytelling become closer to a diverse audience.

Nhan Dan Newspaper is bringing many different experiences to the public: Being able to listen to podcasts of great stories; Being able to discover a lot of in-depth information through data journalism works...

In particular, creative journalism products will be more diverse and broader than works in the usual genre. Recently, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, Nhan Dan Newspaper launched the project “Each person, a piece of the puzzle”. Readers can combine them into a large photo of the Hanoi Flag Tower.

On May 7, 2024, during the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory propaganda campaign, Nhan Dan Newspaper published an interactive panorama supplement attached to the daily print issue, including 4 pages summarizing the progress of the 56 days and nights of the campaign and 4 pages printing the entire panorama of the "Dien Bien Phu Campaign".

Readers can cut and combine them into a 3.21m long panorama and interact with the picture through augmented reality (AR) technology or QR code scanning. This technology allows users to view a dynamic panorama in physical space. Here, there is a clever combination of print and online newspapers, print combined with digital products, technology products, the two types will promote each other.

Journalist Ngo Viet Anh, Deputy Head of Nhan Dan Electronic Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper said, "Propaganda campaigns about major national events have truly created new experiences, attracting the attention of readers, especially young people, and have even been highly appreciated by international experts, and that is what helps us realize that we are on the right track in our new way of doing communication."

Sharing his experience in achieving success in creative journalism, journalist Ngo Viet Anh said: “We will gather together and develop creative ideas a year in advance. For example, on April 30 this year, we will plan for April 30 next year. In addition, we will assign tasks to project teams. Project workers will not follow the structure of a specialized committee but will follow the person suitable for that project. Each project will have many different items, then complete the projects by combining them together... and communicate on social networks.”

Spreading Creativity in Modern Journalism

In fact, many Vietnamese press agencies have been very active in leading and pioneering the digital transformation of journalism by changing the way they present and approach readers, typically Vietnamplus, VnExpress, Tuoi Tre...

With the creative way of creating journalistic works to leave an impression on readers. The images included in the article are vivid, readers can click on each part of the photo to get a series of necessary information. In addition to the deep content, the presentation is also very innovative.

At Vietnam News Agency, over the years, the unit has had many creative innovations in creating modern journalistic works. A typical example is the launch of infographics.vn, leading the trend of data journalism in Vietnam. Up to now, VNA's graphics are not only diverse in content and form, but also interactive. Many beautiful, modern graphic information is no different from products published in the world's leading newspapers.

Journalist Nguyen Hoang Nhat, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of VietnamPlus e-newspaper, shared that thanks to technology, creating creative journalism products has never been easier than now, when we have many supporting tools, especially AI. These products are considered visual journalism, everything is intuitive and vivid, helping to enhance the reader's experience, allowing them to immerse themselves in the story.

"Whenever you launch a special topic, don't think about how many words, how many episodes, what genre (reportage or reportage) you will write. Instead, think about new genres, with many multimedia elements, telling stories with photos, videos or graphics, data... with a topic but need to try to think of ways to enhance the experience for readers, which is also enhancing the value for each reporter and editor. The important thing is to dare to think, dare to do and learn new skills, it's never too late," added journalist Nguyen Hoang Nhat.

Similarly, at Vietnam Television, 2024 also marked strong innovation and creativity in the production of television programs. These press products were distributed and transmitted by the station on many different channels, expanding their reach to the audience. All of them made an impression on the audience and had a strong spread.

As in the recent Morning Coffee program with VTV3, the crew created a virtual assistant character right on the program. Any questions and concerns from the audience will be answered by Morning Coffee's AI assistant right on the livestream at 7:00 am on the Fanpage.

Or in the program "Tet means hope" in early 2024, the production team used AI to redraw portraits of martyrs and heroic Vietnamese mothers. The story begins in Chin Chu hamlet, Dien An commune, Dien Ban, Quang Nam, which used to be a revolutionary base. The people here were loyal to hiding, sheltering and protecting the revolution. There were 17 martyrs, 7 heroic Vietnamese mothers, and 7 wounded soldiers during the resistance war.

The war is over, but many families still do not have a memorial photo for their loved ones. In the program "Tet means hope", Vietnam Television cooperated with a project unit using AI to recreate photos of martyrs and heroic Vietnamese mothers, so that they have the opportunity to return to reunite with their families...

It can be affirmed that if there is determination, the spirit of daring to think and dare to do, all difficulties in creating creative press works will be eliminated. The head of each press agency is always dedicated, has a creative way of doing things, can still mobilize resources from people and technology... thereby creating press products that attract the public.
