The fear of having to face Indonesia early is not unfounded for the Vietnamese team as the team from the archipelago still retains the strength that helped them win the championship at the tournament last year. Coach Jeff Jiang still has a squad of great players such as Kurniawan Hendra, Fahri Septian, Numulki Rivan, Farhan Halim... and it is this strong squad that has been creating an impressive journey at the 32nd SEA Games.
Tu Thanh Thuan led the Vietnamese attack to play effectively in game 1.
Having won all the group matches, Indonesia confidently met Vietnam again in the first semi-final match on the afternoon of May 7. All predictions were in favor of the defending champions and therefore, everyone was somewhat surprised when the Vietnamese team continuously led by 16-13, 18-14 and 20-17. Coach Jeff Jiang's timely adjustments helped Indonesia consolidate the game and shorten the score gap. The chase started from there and Indonesia won a thrilling 30-28.
It seemed like the joy of victory had come to the Vietnamese team.
Somewhat disappointed when victory slipped away, the Vietnamese team lost their morale and lost 19-25 in the next game. The situation did not improve for the Vietnamese team as Indonesia played better and better, dominating from the serve to the attack. The third game score was 25-18 in favor of Indonesia as predicted and the final victory belonged to Indonesia 3-0 and this team won a ticket to the final match on May 8.
